“Well, we don’t want the player to have to micro-manage most units. You sort of give the orders and your settlers figure out how to implement your plans.
For combat units, where you do exert more control, we will have the pathing options you would expect in an RTS: waypoints, patrol, etc.”

“We want your settlers to have relationships: to fall in love, mourn each other when they die, etc. Kids are tough. We’re not sure how to model kids moving from infant through childhood to adulthood. Maybe we can do something simple like have an infant to pow instantly “levels up” to a little kid then bam later becomes a full grown adult. We’ll keep thinking about it.”

“My gut reaction, and this a gut reaction … no, because then we’re restricting your choice, maybe you want your blacksmith to be the guy with the epic beard … but if he’s naturally a fisherman, and some other guy is a blacksmith then you’re stuck … We don’t want to restrict your choice like that … so my gut reaction is … you pick what class your units are and then they gain proficiency.”

“We’ve thought about maybe the big game hunter being one of these epic units … our current take on magic is that magic will be rare in the game … so you can imagine a wizard type unit being an epic type unit … we almost think of magic like a nuclear power, you can do a lot of fantastic stuff with it, but the more you invest in it the more chance you have of having a disaster.”

“Now we have one action which is idle, but they should have their own little agendas, their own souls. Sometimes they’ll look around, perhaps take a toy and play with it, if they’re tired they’ll go to sleep, they should all have hobbies … if there’s nothing for them to do, they’ll find something to do.”

“Yes …it has to make it in, we don’t know how, but it has to make it in. There will be some way, you might not like it. Maybe this is how the zombie apocalypse starts … maybe the penalty for losing someone is that you have to ‘res’ them, and ‘ressing’ them too often could turn them into a zombie … zombie apocalypse should be a way to lose the game”

“Yer, that was the idea behind the lagomorphs … you should be able to trade with NPCs, friendly and perhaps not so friendly … people will interact with your city, sometimes to tear it down, sometimes to barter with you, sometimes to demand tribute … and you should be able to interact with the civilizations around you.”

“We thought about that … adding an in-game voxel editor is a big chunk of work, it would be awesome, but its like not worth it yet … eventually maybe, but for now we’re not gonna do that, but it’s a good idea. We even thought about how to level up the carver so that when he levels up you can do more intricate carvings, but if it makes it in, it’s something that will be there later rather than sooner.

“Once we have the other races probably ye, but that’s way down the line. I was talking earlier about how it would be cool if you were playing human and ran into the dwarves and you could bribe some dwarves to either to work through the season to craft some dwarf stuff or maybe even join your town if you’re really nice to them.”
