Hi @SteveAdamo! Good to see you. This community will definitely be a more vibrant place with you keeping everything running smoothly, I’m sure of it.
Wow love all those composers, especially Newman! Haven’t heard Burwell, Silvestri and Mansell so I’ll be checking them out for sure if they belong in that list!
The musical score I am most proud of is ‘Bit By Bit’
Really nice music, good job. The only thing i dont gott the real felling from was those of the north Dident sound so
nordic or vikingsch for me. but overall really good job man
sure thing… just let me know what you had in mind…
p.s. absolutely thrilled to listen to all these fantastic tracks…
Oops, I meant Steve Freer who made the original post and has now disappeared from the planet. Thanks anyway though!
@EpicDwarf @Ozzy @Voobr Thanks so much guys!
@Tom @Ponder @sdee Also big thanks to Radiant, thank you so much for using my tracks for the countdown vid! I really had no idea what you thought of any of my tracks so it made my month for sure I just wish now I had spent more than a day on each of those.
I didn’t think these were going anywhere but I’m really enjoying doing this and the support is just phenomenal. Now with the Kickstarter ended I’m going to tuck away for a while and really put some work into a new track; not just a day for a quick demo but a properly mastered full on track, maybe with a bit of studio work in it as well
That said, any violinist, guitarist, drummers, cellist, flutists or instrumentalists of any kind interested send me an email at 1moretroubadour@gmail.com and let’s see what we can do!
For the battle music, anyone consider trying out something similar to the boss music in Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OahpZD0QE-w
@Mage Very VERY cool idea! I want to try different battle music for the different factions. This is a great launch point for the Raya (spelled right?) people!
Hey Raj, @SteveAdamo or I can change the title for you if you want!
Hey Geoffers! That’d be great! Could you change just change it to ‘Music and Soundtrack’ please?
Will you make any more custom music fitted for the game?
Hey Raj, sorry for the delay, bedtime and all that!
Will change it now for ya.
doh! i read that last night, scanned the title, and unfortunately didnt put 2 and 2 together (7, right?)…
thankfully my partner in (insert partner-ish activities here) came through…
Partner in love?
Has a nice ring to it.
You guys should check out the Orchestral Soundtrack for SimCity. It’s very enticing, and encourages you to build further. I like it, but how about you? SimCity Gameplay Music
Hi guys, my name is Casey Edwards, a professional media composer, and in lieu of all this sharing, I’d like to share with you guys some of my RPG inspired works. In my opinion, a game this vast needs something melodically and motivically latching as something like Zelda and Final Fantasy. It’s instant recognition of not only characters, but places as well. Those guys were/are geniuses! I’ve pitched for this game, but thought since there was so much community sharing I’d go against the professional grain of business and share some tracks with you guys. This Kickstarter phenomenon is really changing the scene. I hope you can enjoy them and I’m looking forward to what this game becomes!
Is that @Voobr from Timber and Stone? I supported the Kickstarter for that as well, gotta say I really dig the soundtrack!
Yup, that’s me! Thanks for the kind comments, I’m glad you are enjoying the T&S soundtrack.
unfortunately, you posted this in the midst of the forum’s downward spiral (people may have missed your content entirely)… i will have to play this from another machine, as these laptop speakers are not doing your tracks justice… but from what i can hear, they sound incredible…
i’ll be looking you up on soundcloud, and i for one am grateful you went against the grain and opted to share your work with us…
I think music has been sadly underutilized in survival games because there is so little predetermined events. But as Stonehearth has scripted encounters as well as the usual survival fare, I think music could really add to the gameplay as aural cues for events or times as well as providing some unobtrusive background for the ears while the hands and eyes get on with playing the game. And with what I am hearing, I think the community is on the right track.
@Raj
Great work. My feelings on first hearing your pieces:
Those of the North – I know you intended this (and the others) to be themes of the different factions, but I think this one sounds like a great theme for Winter (if it were fleshed out a bit more).
Summer Solstice – This sounds exactly like its title and would make a great theme for Spring/Summer. (or general building time)
The Emerald Wind – Very oriental flavor. Makes me think of Fall. Name is very appropriate.
The Tale of the Cottontails – I love the little hopping background made by the plucking strings. Right on target for either the Lagomorph NPCs or maybe a Spring tune.
In the Pantry of the Mountain King – Had me chuckling at the title. Great for Goblin NPC encounters. I think it is to low key for use as battle music, but it would make a great accompaniment to some scripted encounter with the goblins.
Orchard City – Hits the grand city feel right on. Maybe would make great background for general building as well. I could see villagers erecting houses and going about their lives in my budding city to this soundtrack.
Bit By Bit – This is the only track that I felt didn’t really fit. It seemed more appropriate to a time-lapse video. I think it might be the fast CHUCKA-chucka base line that come in about the fourth measure. (This is 4/4 time?) I loved the first four measures or so with the back-and-forth xylophone(?) line. It made me think of this music.
Lazy Days – Another great Spring/Summer theme. Very relaxing but with more of the “easy listening” kind of feel without the “new age” feel. And the increased instrumentals in the middle make me feel “I can succeed!” which is what I want my villagers to feel.
The Sword & Nothing Else – Oh yes! Definitely on the right track for Boss battle type fights.
For battle music, I think it will mostly depend on the pacing of the combat when we eventually get to see it. Judging by what has been said, I don’t think something frantic and action packed is going to have the right feel. Devs have said they want combat to have a strategic pacing, slow enough to maneuver and react. So something up tempo and atmospheric without being franticly adrenaline-driving seems more on target. I actually really like the feel of the short piece in the Kickstarter video.
I think a couple of tunes, at least, are necessary: one for general combat and one for boss (titan) battles. Larger orchestra and more symbols/percussion for the titans. After playing the Tales link by @Nyrixa , I’m tempted to say harpsichords are a must, but that is probably because my mind wants to associate the sound of a harpsichord with villainy and danger.
@Geoffers747
Thanks for the battle references. Theme #1 has the right feel but is too fast, I think. Theme #3 is a better pace, but too subtle. I’d like something with more orchestra. Theme #4 feels much better. At least for general battle music. I’d still probably like more orchestra from the start, but it has a nice relaxed pace while maintaining the battle feel.
I would agree that Secret of Evermore is too dark a feel. Great music, though. The Kefling tune is spot on for general building.
“Lost Odyssey - A Sign of Hope” is too relaxed, I think. Would be good for when the civies are just playing together with the wind rustling the flowers and making the mammooth sneeze. “Lost Odyssey - A Formidable Enemy Appears” has a good boss battle feel to it. “To the Moon” pieces are beautiful but are again too relaxed, I think.
@SamEWNS
The Zelda theme is lovely, but for me it has too many long notes to feel like battle music. I think it has the right big orchestra feel, though.
Peacetime – Lovely, but too subtle for the fit. It is very peaceful and makes me think of sleep. May be good for a nighttime theme.
First Proclamation – Another good tune. This one, I think, has a better fit. It is still relaxing, but there is enough going on that it makes me think more “relaxing” than “sleep”. Oooo, I love the little minor turn in the later half. Also there is something about cellos, bases, and drums that gives that majestic feel.
Crossing the Line – A great battle tune. I think it is too moody for Stonehearth battles. Listening, it actually put me more in mind of Winter and starvation.
@Mage
The Final Fantasy Chronicles tune is maybe a bit too fast, but I think definitely has the right sound for a good battle. I could see something like this playing as I line my troops up to face off against the goblin hordes.
@CaseyEdwards
Thank you for sharing when I know this is your bread-and-butter. As for characters, places, and events being instantly recognizable by their soundtrack, I think this has a lot of potential in the scripted encounters. As I play through possible game events in my head, I keep thinking that there should be different musical themes for when I encounter the Lagomorphs or the Goblins or whatever.
Noble Serenity – Very regal with the sort of marching violins. Where or when do you see this theme being employed?
Dwarven Dweller – Now you’ve biased me with your title, but if I ignore that, I get a feeling of skulking skullduggery as though some furtive stealing or infiltration were happening.
Celestial Terrain – This one is lovely and peaceful. I could see my civs quietly going about their daily lives while that tune played.
