Casey Edwards is an award-winning composer and orchestrator with roots in both classical and rock genres. He is a professional electric guitarist and classically-trained pianist. His early musical experiences were as a trumpet player throughout middle school and into high school. However, it was with the guitar that he began to develop a true understanding of and love for music. After discovering bands such as Dream Theater, his interest in theory, form, and experimentation was piqued and he began teaching himself through intense study and transcribing by ear.
In his late teens, Casey’s love for orchestral music was rekindled through the craft of film music. When his jazz band played for the grand opening of a local movie theater, at the time of the release of Star Wars Episode III (with the legendary music of American composer John Williams), a life-changing inspiration guided him toward the path he would venture. After graduating from high school he immediately bought the soundtrack to Episode III and began to spend his pre-college summer learning to recreate sounds from his favorite film scores using elementary MIDI software.
Throughout his tenure at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Casey pursued extensive studies in composition, orchestration, notation, piano, conducting, classical theory, and jazz harmony. These endeavors led to many opportunities to write for and rehearse with live musicians ranging from solo piano to full orchestra. While a student of the university, he was awarded 1st place in the 2011 Southeastern Composers League Arnold Salop Memorial Competition, and received numerous outstanding junior and senior awards based on compositional and academic merit. He was the faculty-elected recipient of the nationally prestigious Presser Music Scholarship.
During his years of study, Casey’s desire for a greater understanding of music enabled him to graduate with honors while receiving a B.M in Music Theory and Composition. Beyond the traditional training of the academic curriculum, Casey has trained rigorously in the studies of electronic mediums in which he has learned to blend both contemporary and traditional styles and deliver realistic digital music using computer technology.
