Good shape, but too much blue!
Nice work but I think theyāre too detailed for the feel of the game. Check the dragon that Tom just modeled in the latest screencast.
I donāt think theyāre too detailed. That dragon welp is the size of a dog. You have to deminish a lot of detail in order to get it to be that small and still look like a dragon. Larger objects are more detailed, IMO.
I also canāt think of what you can take away from the chocobo without it looking like āgeneric blue blob you can rideā
I think you should add more yellow. If the feathers on the head were yellow, and you added highlights of yellow to the wings and tail, it would look fantastic.
I think the primary issue with the original dragon design is the fact that tons of programming would likely need to be put in, in order to make the ligaments of the dragon to move without looking odd. The simple, but easy on the eyes design that radiant uses probably makes the code behind model movement simple, which is nice when you are trying to get a game out as soon as possible; and of course as everyone else said. It wouldnāt match the rest of the games theme.
Of course, at the moment I have no idea what language the are using to do such things. So if I am wrong, do forgive me.
Oh I completely agree about the programming thing. Of course, if you just didnāt program the wings, you wouldnāt have much to worry about.
Either way, I didnāt find them too detailed. If you donāt think it goes with theme, you donāt have to download the mod, right?
@CannonJunior Keep experimenting with different designs ! The more shiz modders add to this game, the better itāll be!
Compare the dragons to the āCthulhuā model in the kickstarter video. Itās basically a model the same voxel density as any other, but then itās scaled up. I believe a mature dragon designed by Tom would basically be the whelp scaled up. Heās explicitly stated thatās the feel heās going for (in the first livestream video, IIRC).
Iām not saying that @CannonJuniorās work is bad - Iām just saying it probably wonāt fit in well with the overall art theme Radiant are aiming for.
@Geoffers747 @DAWGaMims here are some feather colorings!
Iād load a turntable, but the upload was giving me fits. Next version will have more mounted knights and weapons.
@richard @LordNevs
Personally I think the dragon is way-too-detailed compared to the Stonehearth style. Unless (as my note above) you wanted to go for the effect where things uber rare get uber detailed. I think the chocobo are just-a-little-too-detailed for the established style. Though in both cases, I think itāll be hard to make nice scales or feathers without adding more detail.
Thanks for the comments!
@CannonJunior I agree, as with the dragon, I think the Stonehearth-Style is to design all models in a similar size and to simply re-size them later on. At the moment I am also struggeling to get a feeling for the right style, but we will get there slowly.
Maybe you want to give it a try and see if what I did with my last model also works for you. I would be interested in the outcome, as I did not try it yet with a more complex structure like you have them. I have postet a short guide to the procedure, if you are interested.
Not trying to exactly emulate the Stonehearth-Style. I thought about trying to take the dragon and āboxifyā it, but figured Iād go to smaller things, like chocobos! Iād be interested in seeing if what a Radiant dragon Titan looks like.
Hereās a joust! Evil green people are just recolored humans. I imagine them to be orcs; eventually Iād give them tusks, more bulk, or something, and maybe put them on non-chocobo mounts.
@Geoffers747 Turntable Off!
Could we possibly de-turntable this? My eyes canāt keep up and I wanna watch the jousting!
Thatās better! I like the chocobo knightās helmet - though a slit for their eyes would be good! Apart form that liking it!
Looks like some pretty cool creations. Iām working on a dragon based off of the welpā¦ i have it finished but too new to the forums to post it
You cana lways just upload it to imgur and link it for us!
I suppose i could do that as wellā¦ did not really think about that. tried to give it some what the same look they went with.
Imgur: The magic of the Internetā¦ just copy paste the link with out the ā¦
good try, but it looks really weirdā¦ practically no neck and the body is way too narrow for an adult dragon.
its not suppose to be adult. its a juvenile dragon. so it is suppose to still look young. just not as young as the welps.
Imgur: The magic of the Internetā¦ is the blue dragon as well. tried to make them both a bit different. I do see what you mean with the neck though. ill have to edit that
It might just be me, but I donāt think they arenāt defined enough? I think the colours blend into another in such a way that you canāt distinguish any particular part of the body - especially around the legs. Try altering the colours a bit and then see what it looks like!
THIS IS MADNESS!!!
You can kinda see how the phalanx was designed to work. Looks like s sea of armor here, but besides the shield and helm, these guys here are really quite naked.
Up next, close ups of some of the combat units.
I like the shields, perhaps changing the colour scheme would break the sea of armour look?
Wow! I really like the things you make
I especially like the birds (called Chocobos right?) Its only that they kind of hurt my eyes. Personal i think they have a bit 2 much detail, if you would like take 2/3 of the amout of blocks and then blow them up to this size i think they would look better. But hope you get that i really like them. Its more like a personal thing i think
