I will have a new track at the week end. Would you like me to post it here as well as my thread?
Tom
it would probably be best to start your own thread, that way we can have discussions around your specific pieces… but yes, lets hear more!
Yeah, the reason I asked was because @Doug mentioned that they would decide on tracks with likes on them. I don’t know I’ll just await further instructions.
@tyrcian Hey sir! If music gets posted directly into this thread, that works. However, @SteveAdamo’s idea of having your own thread that is linked into this thread is probably best. It gives fans of the community the opportunity to have their own discourse about your music without flooding this thread. And don’t worry, the likes will be noticed on each video regardless of which thread they are in
@Vaughan I enjoyed Stonehearth Ayrie, thanks for creating that and submitting it here for us. I’ll echo @tyrcian in his advice of not worrying too much about sample libraries at the moment, and just focusing more so on the writing process. I look forward to any further works that you submit!
Don’t forget also that there is a lot you can do with midi to make it sound more real. Even if you have a simple, low quality sample library or synth, try to get involved with the instrument and mess around with envelopes and modulation
Also @Doug I have my own thread set up for this so that’s no problem.
@Vaughan ah, a fellow Finale user! I feel your pain, it is taxing writing with the cats violin and viola. It does make for a hard time, even if the notes are there. My advice would be to make sure you use Violin Section and Viola Section rather than individual ones. As for the piano, I don’t see it as that bad, however having played on a beautiful grand piano, I can tell the difference. If your looking for programmes, I’d recommend Sibelius 5 or something if you want it pretty cheap. It’s up to 7 but I’d assume earlier versions are cheaper. If you want to stay with something free but better, @Lomico recommended to me Musescore, and I could instantly see that it offered more features. I haven’t had a chance to explore the instruments and compare yet, but I’d recommend you give it a download.
I have just considered playing my pieces by hand and overlaying, for the piano part. Hmmm.
I have finale 2012 (as in the full edition, and it came with the “Smart-Synth” crap that we both know, but it also came with some Garritan sounds including the strings, which don’t sound half bad,
So I think I might get the “Personal Orchestra” sound pack. My Directors say that the Garritan finale add-ons are really good.
@SteveAdamo How do I start my own thread?
@Doug @SteveAdamo Indeed I shall, but this Christmas I get a boost in money, and I am planning on buying a [MIDI Keyboard] 1(We have this exact one here at school so I know it is really good.) and the Garritan Personal Orchestra, I spoke with my directors about it and they say that it is a logical next step. I will continue to write the music, and hopefully by January I will have much better sounding versions of them!
you should hopefully see this button in the top-right portion of the discourse (although you are a new member, so it will take some time until this is revealed for you):
I’m finding out if xml can be allowed. I think so… @zogstrip ?
Soundcloud embeds nicely in Discourse posts, if you prefer that. I guess YouTube works well too.
I’m posting teh XML: note.xml (201 Bytes)
XML is enabled!
Well, well, well… What do we have here? It seems I too have been summoned. Glad to see progress in this department and can’t wait to see/hear what happens!
yeah, yeah, yeah… welcome back… blah blah… where’s mah new musik!

now, let’s here some new tracks…
Haha! True to form. Okay, in order to feed the Steve here is a recent work in progress. I get asked to do all kinds of different music being a composer for media. Most recently I’ve been asked to write music for licensing for Adventure/Fantasy trailer music. So this music has nothing to do with Stonehearth, but I hope you can enjoy it anyways. (Remember, it’s a work in progress, so there’s no ending yet.)
EDIT: Finished the piece below!

Sounds fantastic! Keep up the good work mate.
yes! musical cravings sated! thanks @CaseyEdwards…
the track sounds great… I’m assuming at some point you can divulge which project it’s used for?
This is being written for a Publishing company that specializes in music placement licenses for trailer houses, TV, and games. They do genre specific albums (in this case adventure/fantasy) to make it easy for music editors to find their choices quickly. The company I’m writing for is based in London with reps all over the world and has placements in movies like “Rise of the Guardians” and “World War Z.” It’s tons of fun!
I’m beginning to think that this Steve is an impostor… there’s no way the REAL Steve would let this many grammatical mistakes through.
Alright, to the point now: Nice job, everyone! Good tracks by all, and I hope to see them in the community soundtrack at some point. Those songs are most definitely pretty “turn-up”.
Apologies … I’ve been posting quite a bit from my “smart phone”, which, contrary to its developers beliefs, is not smarter than me…
