Can't play r582 but previous A17 builds and A16 start fine

I’ve been playing yesterday just fine and today game won’t launch anymore. If i go back to alpha 16 the game start. I dont speak english, hope u guys can understand me

Welcome to the forum, @Pau

So you’ve been playing the latest A17 released yesterday?

Are you playing new games, or continuing an Alpha 16 savefile on A17?

Do you have any mods installed?

Weolcome to the discourse!

That’s unfortunate that your game isn’t working, if you don’t have a valuable save, try deleting all files of stonehearth and re-installing it, manually deleting it and removing from files in steam, and re-installing it, i had similar issues myself in oter alphas and this usually fixed it

If you have something like a valuable save? Well, i don’t have much for you…

Thanks! Yes, i was playing A17 yesterday, and all was fine. But with this update the game won’t launch. I already reinstall the game several times, and delete all the files before do it, manually too. When i hit the play in steam i can see in my task manager the stonehearth process, but nothing more happend and can’t terminate that process until i restart pc.

Nothing in the stonehearth log :disappointed:

Can you try to launch it without Steam and see if it starts fine?
Maybe it’s Steam who is troubling the application, especially if it doesn’t let you kill the process.

Maybe you had "settlementdecor"mod in you mod files.

A17 r582 can’t run it.

When i use the stonehearth.exe in C:…\Steam\steamapps\common\Stonehearth i get error messages, when hit the stonehearth.exe in C:…\Steam\steamapps\common\Stonehearth\x64 the game start, but is all black. I can hear the music but nothing more. It’s sad.
My game is totally vainilla, no mods running.

I’d say to wait a bit more for the radiant logo to appear, sometimes it takes a while, but it’s probably something else if you waited the same for A16.

Have you tried verifying the integrity of the game cache yet?
-On Steam, right click Stonehearth on your library.
-Click on Properties. Click on the Local Files tab.
-Click on “Verify integrity of the game cache”.

This should detect if there’s some file corrupted or missing and will attempt to fix it.

Which errors?

I check the integrity, all ok. Try to pop up that error again but now i only got black screen and music, o nothing and immortal process in the task manager. Wait like 10 minutes, the radiant logo never appear.

I think you might not have the latest drivers. Updating the drivers has helped many many times so you could also try it.

In this page: Downloads for Intel® HD Graphics 4600

There’s a list of drivers for your graphics card. Download and install the one corresponding to your operative system (I don’t know if you have Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 10).

Well, i have the lastest drivers now and still the same, if run the game from steam; unkillable process and nothing, if run from .exe in folder; black screen, music and nothing more. I have no more ideas.

could you post the contents of your user_settings.json file?

You can try changing “enable_fullscreen” to false instead of true, save, restart the game and see if it helps…

When the fullscreen mode gave problems it usually crashed the game, I think. It didn’t leave the black screen  this is so weird…

Yes, it is rare. I already change that option and the resolution too… nothing seems to work and is driving me crazy…

do you happen to have two monitors?

No, just one. And the A16 work fine like A17 until the last update :sob:

I’m not sure what else you can try…
I’ll summon some devs ( @Albert or @not_owen_wilson ). It makes no sense that it’s happening only in the latest build and not the previous unstable ones, maybe something important has changed.

If you have any crash.dmp file in the Stonehearth folder, can you upload it here please?

A quick search shows these threads in the forum, related to firewalls and such:
http://discourse.stonehearth.net/t/game-starts-with-a-black-screen-uninstall-windows-8-firewall-control/18036/18?u=relyss

I remember a weird issue where the files were not accesible due to processes, but it’s unrelated. Your log looks fine, no errors, no mods, no crashes… :disappointed_relieved:

how strange. black screens have historically been associated with some type of antivirus/malware/firewall programs, but you’ve played the game as recently as the last a17 patch

the devs should be around soon so hopefully they can enlighten us!

i don’t have any crash report, because the game never crash, the process is unkillable, and when the black screen thing happend then i can kill the process, so, no crash file. There is no problem with the firewall, i check that too before… Hope the devs can help me… i want my hearthlings back
