I know that there’s an almost same thread and I’ve read that.
I still can’t play the game when “Steam Latest” is enabled while the normal version runs perfectly fine. It’s mind boggling. I’ve deleted everything, including my saved games (lol), and did a fresh install but it (the steam latest version) still won’t start. Both version have practically the same stonehearth.json files.
So, after fiddling with the game I still can’t manage to run the “Develop-3092” build. I’ll just hang on with the Alpha 17 and hope that I would be able to run the official Alpha 18 when it’s released
Since the recent (latest update alpha 18) i have been unable to load the game. When i restore the game back to alpha 17 the current edition the game loads perfectly. I have deleted the game and reloaded it but that does not help. I do not get any error messages, load screens ect, the game just wont load.
On steam, when you are in the library tab, i will click on “stonehearth” then click on the “play button”. From there nothing happens. This problem only happens when i am in alpha 18 beta, if I “unload” latest game and go back to alpha 17 then everything runs perfectly.
I did go into the properties tab and checked the “verify integrity of the game cache” and it reported no errors. Any suggestions?
at first best you give us the infos from your stonehearth.log in the stonehearthfolder after a start of a18,
but before this the best is that you remove the complete stonehearthfolder (all files) and then download the latest branch - perhaps there are some old files/infos in your settings which compromise it
Hi wiese and folks, I’m not the thread starter but I also have the same problem.
The game doesn’t even register anything on the stonehearth.log every time I try to load alpha 18. I have performed a clean installation but it still doesn’t work.
I have done the same, i deleted the full game including saved games and reinstalled. I have checked the stonehearth.log and it does not change. I assume this is because the game never “runs” from steam. The odd thing is if i go back to alpha 17 the game runs just fine.
I went into the stonehearth folder again and completely deleted everything(all folders). Then i downloaded the game straight to “latest” alpha 18 edition. This has fixed the problem. There most have been some problem when going from alpha 17 to alpha 18. I hope this helps. This is the stonehearth log before being able to update to alpha 18

Did you go into the main folder and delete everything? I think their may be some files that linger in another folder, i went into the steam folder and searched stonehearth and deleted everything. Then i pulled up steam, went to profile/beta and clicked latest version. Then i downloaded stonehearth and had no further problems. I hope this helps!
Duh, apparently I need to run the 64bit version (I suppose) under the x64 folder, then it works flawlessly! No wonder all this time I can’t run the game because it always tried to open another file/.exe.
Thanks for your help! BTW, your avatar reminds me of someone from rpgcodex
But, @HitTheDeck, you should be able to change which one is run in the game settings, or if you can’t, in the user_settings.json (“force_32_bit” : false, )
Or directly in your user_settings.json, make sure is set to false and then start the game:
If you have this setup, but it crashes when running the game, and it doesn’t crash if you run the exe inside the x64 folder, tell us. I believe Yang said once that you should not need to run the exe inside the x64 folder.
