I love the idea that, like everything else in SH, you can choose how deep to go. You want the greens, you can stick with them. If you want to go deeper, then you can choose the yellows and purples.
of course I had to get ninja’d by @Xavion, (and then took forever to type this) so now I’ll add on to what he said…
Are you going for a more micro feel with this mod, or is that something that does need to be counteracted? I kinda get a different feel to regular SH, where you’re trying to build up a new civilization, essentially, versus having a tribe of these people just fighting for survival. Just my 2 cents, but it’d be nice to see which direction you plan on heading.
Awesome suggestions and questions haha; I wasn’t expecting that good of questions this soon. Yeah the plan with the “dual talisman” type of thing is to hopefully introduce quite a few of secondary type things for added flavor to give some unique advantages to the villagers that manage to survive long enough. The only one I’ve thought about so far is the Chieftan because it’s the most obvious in the tribal theme and because it’s more of a “social status” than a job/class.
I currently have no idea how many generations of inheritance are going to last I think something like that is going to depend on the coding side of it. It might be that it’s based entirely on the parents line and stops there as it’s more of a combination of what’s “in the blood” and how they’re raised; as in they were born and raised in a family with Z and Y parents so even though their grandparents (depending on the job are most likely sitting in some large animals stomach) might have been Z and X they weren’t raised around that environment so it could have little impact? It could possibly lead to only slight stat adjustments throughout the entire blood line; past the immediate generation and jobs be focused on only what the parents are.
That does make more sense with the Bonesmith I just went with Handler because my thought process went "Where would the bones come from? Well the Handler has a lot of animals… " Haha but that would be kind of cruel as I’m leaning towards more a Beastmaster style Handler maybe someone who loves and cares for them; then outfits them with armor and comes out hunting with you (kind of like a “pet class”)
With the Herbalist the Shaman can kind of go back to being a real magic class again so I’m probably going back to the original design (I’m going to keep the method of obtaining him the same since sending a villager off alone on a random amount of time for a “Spiritual Journey” just fits the Shaman and is a risk in of itself that he may never come back.) So with that they’re both “Healers” of sorts but the difference will be the Shaman will also buff your hunting party and cast nature/elemental spells and the Witchdoctor will debuff and strike fear into your enemies meanwhile maybe summoning skeletons again (not sure on the skeletons still that might be better as some kind of crazy voodoo witch or something)
I don’t know how I want to avoid the micro management for the villager kids portion but I want to try and keep with the Stonehearth feel and reduce it as much as possible; some options like the Rancher will introduce Saddles and domesticated Pikkens that will let any of your hunting party ride them will reduce your dependence or “need” for Riders but also boost your Riders abilities.
I’ve been told Microsoft’s Visio works really well for this kind of stuff but the website to sign up for a trial of the program was broken when I tried; none of the dropdown boxes would populate with actual data for me to fill out the forms just huge lists where everything said “undefined” so that was pretty funny.
Indeed you do get something I’ve decided to take your advice on Monkey new turntables will be incoming so stay tuned to this post.
My last post towards @Xavion explains somewhat where I want to go with the micro management; I want to reduce it as much as possible but just the introduction of the system itself will add a certain amount of it. Lol.
First up:
New Super Forehead Brows Monkey with his feet moved forward; you said a larger and more bald forehead right?!
And also:
Monkey armor got upgraded some and now he has a bamboo spear.
Due to unforeseen circumstances surrounding the larger forehead Monkey has gained some bulk in the back of his head.
The red one feels more like a ninja than a shaman. I’d have to say the second green shaman, The hair-thing is a nice touch (I don’t know the technical term. Sue me :P)
Yeah I figured it was about time I went back and did something to the Shaman; who originally was a “War Mage” which is why he was all robed up and stuff. The red one was probably the second human I made and most of it was just an alteration of the first one lol.
I don’t know what they’re called either I was just thinking he needed some bone hair tie things instead of the gold/yellow ones that were originally in that hair style haha; seemed more shaman like.
My current rule of thumb right now is “If it doesn’t look tribal enough add more bones.”
I feel that the green neck snake thing looks weird, if it’s meant to be some kind of scarf/necklace it should be slightly lower and otherwise I’ve got no idea what it should be. I think it’s the basket but it might be something else but it’s making me think of some kind of gatherer more than a herbalist. A suggestion as well to make to make the robed one look more shaman would be to try a brown for it, more for a monk or like the shaman person from the simpsons movie.
I actually wasn’t sure about that either; I was going for a scarf it just didn’t pan out lol.
What if the robe is the same color then it can be just like a really tall collar? Or does the green still not feel “Shaman” like?
I didn’t think the red felt very much like a Shaman because I think of nature when I think of Shaman but then a google image search found quite a few predominantly red clothed shamans.
(Edit) I wasn’t sure if you were talking about the satchel on his back hip or the war drum on his side when you said basket either? lol
@GrimMethod when I think of nature I would think of druids then again druids are more celtic then they are tribal, I think that right now your shaman reminds me too much of that guy who hated sully because sully was stealing his girl in Avatar and final but not least you may or may not have stolen (actually lets just call it borrowed because I never told anyone about the idea which kinda means people are unlikely to believe me) my idea about breading to get a class which is the system I was going to use for my dogmen whereby yyou have to 2 different kinds of dogs together to get the breed of St.Bernard/Brewer (Because they have the little barrel of brandy on their necks)
@GrimMethod I’m loving everything I see so far! Already looking like it could be a really interesting way to play the game, and heck we haven’t even got our hands on the game itself!
Have you had any thoughts about buildings and the like? Obviously you’ve shown a cage which I suppose could be seen as a tiny view of the building style as a whole, but if you haven’t, then I would hope you stick with the tribal feel for the buildings and what not.
I don’t think he has really borrowed or stolen this idea, I mean, it’s been used before and specifically in regards to the Pikkens, to me at least, it’s heavily inspired by Chocobo breeding in Final Fantasy 7.
Your dog breeding idea sounds great, and actually I think it would work really well as a pet/ animal trainer sorta ‘game’ within the main game itself. If you wanted to focus on the breeding of animals then you do that, and you will get some awesome results, but if you don’t then it won’t negatively effect you.
I’d appreciate if you didn’t accuse me of stealing or “borrowing” an idea that you yourself said you didn’t tell anyone about; I ask that you edit your post to reflect the fact that it’s impossible for me to steal/borrow an idea out of your head.
As @Geoffers747 said the idea for Pikken breeding and a good portion of the Pikkens themselves heavily comes from Final Fantasy with a mixture of other fantasy and non-fantasy flightless birds.
If you’re talking about your one vague post where you said you were going to have each breed of dog as a different class; that doesn’t even begin to suggest breed cross-pollination, a breeding system, or hybrid classes. It was also posted in a reply to my original Pikken Breeding chart on my old topic. So who’s borrowing what?
Does anyone know some real stuff about boat physics? If you took a wooden raft and stuffed hollow bamboo shafts vertically through it into the water would said boat sink?
I understand this is a weird question but I literally had tribal people invade my dream last night and these crazy fools tried some serious stuff that I want to recreate but I question their physics.
i suppose it would depend on if the raft were sealed, or made of spaces materials that were strapped together… or if there were counter flotation devices (pontoons, etc,)
if the boat had a solid base, it would take on water, and sink, no mater how buoyant it was though…
I knew my dream was lying to me; not that I expected some normal physics. They rolled in with a raft that had bamboo shafts stuck in it and then swimming tribesman snuck underneath and connected bamboo snorkels to them and used that to breathe for a stealth attack.
I mean I understand why tribal people are coming into my dreams because I’ve been working on them so much but this was just crazy stuff.
Same. It’s an issue that I’ve seen a lot of other people have as well. I assume you are running Google Chrome as well? Sometimes I can see images and sometimes I can’t (and then I come back later and they are visible).
Everyone should join me on the dark side with IE11.
I’ve literally never had a problem with any gifs loading although that one Qubicle Creations thread that reached something like 300 posts and had a ton of gifs crashed on me sometimes haha.
