It may sound crazy…but…well I have another piece…

So spurred on by the positive encouragement of yesterday and the relief of getting my piano exam out of the way, I came up with this little jig.

Very short, though more situational (to be played at festivals). Takes the pepper for my least favourite piece of music I’ve made, though the piccolo is such a hard instrument to love. Sibelius why you no have pipes or anything better? The recorder just didn’t cut the mustard and the harmonica was never going to be for more than my amusement…I guess piccolo it is. You see my pain.

Again, thoughts and feedback. As I said I’m not a huge fan of this piece, so critique is positively encouraged!

Edit: Also a thanks to @TobiasSabathius for the name suggestions on the first piece, and I have now changed the name to Evening Glow, along with deleting the initial rendition of it, leaving just the previously named HQ version. Boy naming’s hard. The Piper’s Feast was the product of a good 10 minute inner-debate, and I’m still on the fence about it. Partially because there’s no pipes.

very aptly named and i would agree… sounds very festive…

i do think this needs some sort of accompaniment though, but being as musically ā€œchallengedā€ as i am, i’m not sure what instrument that might be… perhaps some sort of ā€œrenaissance drumā€ or additional wind instrument?

wow… the internet is just fabulous… you can find all sorts of things!

I would agree on the accompaniment and there was initially a drum to go with the piccolo and flute, however I just couldn’t get it to stop feeling so out of place…so I scrapped it. I will probably try and give it a go later on and see if I can’t get something to work for me. Unfortunately as wonderful as the internet is, I am limited to the instruments Sibelius contains, which for some bizarre reason seems to include no bells of any sorts other than the tubular ones. There is also fair limitation on my options of simple drums it seems, though I’ve discovered that the search function is not particularly good when finding instruments.

Also, possible new piece on the way. Another festival piece, however I’ve got to decide what I actually want it to be like before I can develop it much further.

Well, I said I was back and then what did I do? Absolutely nothing. :stuck_out_tongue:

So, my apologies, I can’t even say that I’ve been busy other than obsessively watching every match of the world cup…

The problem sort of is that I’m still learning music theory (flying through Grade 4 with Grade 5 books ready to go for when I’m done) and that means that I don’t really know fully what I’m doing. Or I kind of do. I’ve finally learnt about chord sequences and stuff, but my knowledge of instruments outside of piano are so very very limited. So I kind of feel like ā€œwhy compose when I could just go learn more theory and my compositions would take less time and likely be better?ā€

Anyway, I’d felt like that up until now, but this evening (tbh in England it’s really the early morning) I got bored and started playing away on the piano, and quite liked it.

TL;DR: whinge whinge procrastinate - new piece on its way!
