Sid Meier's Civilization Beyond Earth

The prepurchase is now available and has an offer… I don’t think it is personally enough for me to prepurchase though:

Prepurchase offer on steam

ok, i was planning on making a new Kickstarter Roundup… however, i will simply (and discreetly) link to a couple of campaigns i noticed this morning…

the first is one for our musically inclined members… and my gut reaction is that @Doug and @Raj will love this one:smile:

p.s. this one, and that one too…

Agreed. I mean it looks interesting, but frankly it SMACs (sorry :stuck_out_tongue: ) more of a total conversion mod than a new game worth spending £30 on.

I do think the package deal with civ IV, V, and beyond earth is pretty good. Chances are I will be getting beyond earth, but I will most likely be waiting for the December sales.

Dammit Steve, why???

Don’t click it!

Thanks @SteveAdamo, I would gladly back this project. I’m hoping it gets funding.

So I was at the Firaxis Panel at PAX Prime a few days ago, and it was all about Beyond Earth. Gamespot was filming it and I believe they said it’d be up this Thursday, so keep an eye out. They did another play demo and the lead devs were on stage to talk about some things they haven’t talked about before. It was an hour long panel (hopefully they don’t edit it down) and I really enjoyed being there for it in person and learned some things about the game I didn’t know. The panel was completely full and afterwards I felt good spending most of my morning waiting in line for it. Totally worth it, and it just made me want the game even more. So check it out when it shows up on Gamespot.

As Beyond earth comes out the 24th i though i would revive this thread.
Dark Booming voice Rise my minions rise.

Also after looking a bit on my map (i was bored and made a ca. map of where the different sponsors are) i discovered that we need an arabic sponsor and one for all the atlantic island (I am not quite sure if Polystralia are covering this)

This is just guessing as they are not defining specific locations for the sponsors

Scandinavia seems to be at a loss as well.

Actually i think it is sort of covered by the Slavic Federation. But they could easily be made a sponsor as the Slavic Federation doesn’t have any specific countries in it.

Most of south america aren’t represented either but i guess there is a possibility that Brasilia conquered them.

That map makes my head hurt. BRB whilst I mod in vaguely realistic factions in place of that dreck…

Hey, who let you out of sci fi cage?! Oh…should have made it a map game cage. @thorbjorn42gbf! Get me some new blueprints!!!

Well, let’s see now…

-Anglosphere (Australia, New Zealand, Canada, UK, maybe USA & India, various small islands)
-Islamic Faction (North Africa, Middle East, Indonesia etc)
-China (maybe with bits of central Asia & Africa)

That’s just off the top of my head. Also maybe dump the cringe-worthy lore that says we have 60 metre sea level rises… what did they do, build giant mirrors and lasers out in space to melt the whole of Antarctica? Fill in the Atlantic Ocean with concrete?

I was bored in biology ok. It was made solely to get an overlook of where the different sponsors are.

I am a bit confused… What is this about?

Actually i don’t think they have said that exactly. Or they keep saying that humanity has messed up but they won’t tell us how. Because that is something we need to think about us self. Though there was a rise in ocean Depth/hight? ( i am not sure what to call it when the amount of water in the oceans rise)

Well it is at least 200 years in the future and if the permafrost melts and humanity keeps producing too much CO2 and CH4 things could get pretty bad.

Oh also @Teleros i would love to see a better map

Faction ideas was all.

The cinematic showed water lapping around the pyramids at Giza, which are ~60m above sea level.

The CO2 issue is wildly exaggerated (zero warming for 18? 19? years now? Tee hee), but regardless, the IPCC reckons you’d need to melt Antarctica & Greenland to get a 65m sea level rise. How in the world you do that without making a conscious effort is beyond me frankly.

Be careful what you wish for  . I like my mapping software

Red is the core British Anglosphere, blue & light blue are for countries that may be a part of it for language or other historical reasons (US allies, Commonwealth countries, etc). Green is Islamic countries, light green is China & the countries in its sphere of influence, turquoise is Russia & its sphere of influence. Dull yellow is Spanish-speaking Latin America (minus the USA :stuck_out_tongue: ), purple and pink are for the EU, albeit after it splits the Eurozone up into two.

Cashing! Sweden is with Germany!

Just for everyone feeling uncomfortable ATM i will add that the earlier statement was based purlieu on the current economy of the two countries, or at any rate before the resent Swedish election. Not in any way related to a certain German dictator 70 or so years ago.

Hmm didn’t remember that one…

I think that can be discussed as most of Iceland’s and Greenland’s glaciers are shrinking at an alarming rate and the permafrost is moving more and more to the north (Don’t really now hows going down south)

Also about the factions these are confirmed ones - and where i think they are placed:

Polystralia - Australia and the islands around it who hans’t been consumed by the sea (I base this assumption on that it is the last bigger landmass left… and the stralia part in the name)

The Slavic Federation - The slavic countries

Franco-Iberia - From the name i assume that this France and the Iberian countries (Portugal, Spain…)

Brasilia - Brasilia. Surpise, surprise

Kavithan Protectorate - This is the one i am most unsure about but i will guess India and maybe a few other countries

People’s African Union - The parts of Africa not flooded i guess?

Pan-Asian Cooporative - Japan, China and some countries near them (This will neither be Russia or India as they are taken)

American Reclamation Corporation - US maybe Canada and Mexico (Interestingly this seems to be the only none government sponsor)

Some of the places you mention are somewhat taken but i like the idea of the Germanic alliance

Also it seems that the internet has decided that Scandinavia need to be a sponsor on their own, Because who don’t want viking in space? :stuck_out_tongue:
