particles lots of particles and just hide the sucker in smoke and fire
I have been ‘away’ from this amazing community for a couple of weeks, and this is what I return to. Awesome!
I don’t know if you ever played Third Age mod for Medieval II, but basically it completely overhauls the game with a new map, 10+ different factions (Gondor, Dwarves, White Mountain etc.) and loads of new units; it’s amazing. Doing something similar for Stonehearth would surely be well-received.
I would love to help out with this, with both the skills I have and those I don’t master that well. I could help out with Photoshop, I could do some recording and video editing, I could help getting lists of units ready and a lot more.
It truly is a shame school will be in my way the coming week.
Working out a way to build these straight in to the terrain would be awesome. e.g. find a big mountain/hill. Build door, dig out house etc…
I realise that this might be too much work.
This all looks great so far!
I don’t have much to add to what @Xavion posted but it would probably be wise to draw influence from Tolkein (I mean who hasn’t when it comes to high fantasy?) and just come up with your own names and design quirks.
As @Xavion said there’s so much to draw upon when it comes to fantasy also I think a massive issue occurs if you were to ever monetize it. That is a massive no-no that will put you in hot water faster than something real fast, like a jet engine …
yes and you guys pointed out the skyrim mod which was taken down, It was very clear why they where taken down, It was not beacause they had the characters but because and i quote "Our goal as a team is to realize the world of J.R.R. Tolkien as closely as possible to his vision. We hold the lore to a very high standard and will try not compromise to it. We use the films for inspiration" the story line was frodo taking the ring to that mountain, I think having guys with the same names and “looking alike” should not cause much trouble since there would be no movie reference
You could help with icons and such! (they are nasty little hobbitses for me since photoshop eludes me for now)
I like the way you think sir!
An important piece of info for you, the books, lore, and everything that’s a part of them is copyrighted as well. Just not by WB. That and the names are the worst part pretty much, if you have a wizard with a big white beard, super magic staff, white robes, and massive amounts of raw power it’s pretty cliched and not in anyway copyright breaking, if you name them Gandalf it’s clearly copyright breaking. The same thing applies to most of them, besides do you really think you could get away with having gandalf/bilbo/gollum/whoever and have them just wander around a village? Those characters already have had their story told anyway, at most just base it in the same world without the characters. Maybe one of them could wander through at some point but can you think of any reason why they’d be in a middle of nowhere proto-hamlet?
True i was not clear earlier when the mod is made the characters would have “funky” names but i could not stop you from changing them plus funny names is way more fun and just a more fantasy based mod!
**I didn’t want to come of as rude, If you sensed it that way **
And thanks for all the tips though i knew most of it doing my research
The way I interpreted what you said was that you would have gandalf and frodo and whatnot be characters in the mod. What were you intending for your statement to mean?
Isn’t it the same as with other fan-made mods? As long as you don’t sell your mod it should be no problem.
SquareGabe, I could also help out with making trailers and record more videos, edit them etc. Is it going to include pretty much every faction, or will it just feature the most popular ones? Would be neat if most of them would be available.
We could always go down the path of the “The Wizard Gondolf” takes “Balbo” and various Dwarves on an adventure through the “Smoky Mountains” via “Dirkwood Forest” and finally ending up at “The Solitary Mountain”
eh eh eh… .thats a good idea… right?
It would probably be fine too, of course for something like that the more ridiculous jokes you put in the safer it gets. The wonders of Parodies. You’d only have to ignore a little bit of the legal systems, notably Australia.
I hope most would be included if horses would be implemented then i would for example like to see “riders of rohan”
I was meaning, well a spoof parody of sorts but names could be easily changed back you the users-end
Something along the lines of @Amlin thumbs up !
right i have decided. i will do some modeling if you want. i will probably get cracking tonight when work finishes. make use of my new rig. anyone in particular you want made? i was thinking of doing some orcs or goblins, maybe tackle the wood elves…
of course there is the fabled necromancer, mr Sauron himself
Well, because I’m all about the lists, I think we need to compile a list of everything we want this mod to contain/ do?
Then people can see what is being worked on, what needs working on etc.
exzackery!
also reading through 96 posts is a pain in the bottom
Yer, granted the first post does have a list of models, we should all probably get something completely definitive down to work with,
I’ll be helping with code at least. It is going to be more of a middle-earth parody than the actual plot right? Although having a series of events where they run around the continent looking for the ring cause they lost and go through your village sometimes could be amusing. So here’s an idea of a take on it for you, it draws from some alternative sources just because while typing it by brain noticed that middle is used in some other fiction as part of the place name.
Focus on the plight of one small village in the land of Middlerock, as the many villains roam the land being fought off by The Fellowship and it’s elite agents. Then the most evil villain of them all Dr. Azauron starts to build a giant weapon that threatens all the land, The Azure Eye. Top agents such as the elvish sharpshooter Legolisp, the human ranger Arogaunt, and the mighty wizard Gandore set off with up and coming adventurers Frodon and Cam to stop him.
It clearly needs work and I’m not happy at all with any names other than Dr. Azauron and The Fellowship but it sounds amusing parody-esque to me. Plus it give people a bit more freedom in modelling as it’s clearly not lotr and thus any differences are acceptable, if we have spirits of rock, ice or whatever else because balrogs already nicked fire and they’re too cliche then it’s fine. We can make hobbits distinguishing feature big eyebrows instead of big feet if we want. It’s clearly based on middle-earth and lotr with just more amusing parody of some stuff.
Of course that could all be worthless, I suppose that’s what I get for mixing disney and tolkien.
@Geoffers747 you are probably way better than me at lists and i would be truly greatful if you would compile one
@jollins Thats great news, as far as who you want to make its up to you ! tohugh orc, goblins and the noble (yet less wise) wood elves would be awesome
well Mordor could be a biome which is spawned in X distance away. It would of course contain world bosses. There for the taking if you want to claim the land and defeat the evil before it attacks or simply build barricades to block the invasion if you are just looking for a good time with your mini voxel dwarves… elves… men… hobbit’s… bunny clan?
