Perhaps large mosaic/clay windows? Or simply larger window frames of some description.
Crucibles to let the Blacksmith make high-quality metals and Casting Molds for bronze castings.
Just been watching the stream and was thinking about what Tom said about Rayyaâs Children starting with the potter instead of the carpenter.
You would need to replace some of the major object types that are dependant on the carpenter such as beds, tables and chairs to ensure that they are accessible earlier. Otherwise you have to level up a potter-mason-blacksmith-carpenter before beds are avaliable again. Chairs and tables are available on the mason.
Also pottery crafter signs!
A clay practice sword seems prone to shattering. [Ceramic knives do exist in the modern world, but theyâre not really just made out of clay.]
Perhaps Rayyaâs children need a stone practice sword? Either that, or very delayed combat.
Also, while there are apparently people named Clay Hoes, a tool with that name doesnât seem to exist. Taking a while to get to farming would seem to fit RC as far as I know, but you could always have some early metal tools casted by a high-level potter.
More inert, less porous, is the scientific answer
âCause you can see if its red or blueâ is the gamer answer
Some clay/glass alchemy equipment would be really cool though!
Thatâs actually a really interesting pointâI didnât think about the delay that would occur to get a Carpenter. Considering theyâre supposed to focus on trade and infrastructure first, having Rayyaâs Children wait for combat seems to make senseâit of course come with some risk!
But donât forget that a weapon could be purchased in the loadout screen, so youâd at least have the option of more protection early on. Maybe since theyâre traders, they have more money and options to choose from?
Also, it seems to me that the furniture from the Mason could have a different color for the new faction, considering the notable difference in biomes. Maybe something more sandstone-colored?
As for something more on-point with the topic at hand, what about chemical weapons, such as hand grenades as a late (LATE) concept? Ceramics were used as a container for gunpowder/chemical explosives historically.
goblin grenadiers must become a thing!
Thinking about it again, though, maybe this would lie more under the Engineer, given the gunpowder element. So maybe this could be another hybrid project (like the comfy bed with the Carpenter and Weaver).
But itâd definitely be neat to see this from an enemy!
YES! Going back to Diablo II, I remember those sand marauder people whoâd throw the fire bombs. âGrenadesâ definitely fit into the whole mysterious specialty-item-carrying merchant peoplesâ arsenal.
Definitely late-game stuff though.
Derailing further, Iâm tempted to add Sujamma to the list, a.k.a. âThe only useful/OP potion in TES games.â It comes in a fancy ceramic jar:
Sujamma 10 x 330ml as needed, for one-hit insta-kills
*Do not lift heavy machinery while on Sujamma
*May cause confusion and cognitive decline
Clay window boxes, Would be my first suggestion,
Next, I saw some Clay fences, (Google told me theyâre real)
Something like this
Any my last suggestion, A little clay toy, Cause why not
Jewelry made of clay beads
Luxury item that could be equipped to boost morale (could perhaps replace the bracelets) or sold at a high price.
Probably to small to care about but anyway.
Iâm going to bet that Rayyaâs Children will have a purchaseable Carpenterâs Saw in their Embarkation Shop. He did say in the stream that youâll have both classes, so itâs just a matter of when you get both.
As such, Iâm not sure that I agree that you need to make Potter versions of beds and chairs (tables donât actually do anything important yet from what Iâve seen in the code). It might actually be fun to have that kind of different starting experience when playing as Rayyaâs Children.
With the way the promotion system is set up right now it would be impossible to progress without the carpenterâs saw at the outset. You need the carpenter to get a mason who makes the hammer for the blacksmith who makes the saw for the carpenter. They would have to change the way the carpenter saw is made, which would be tough because theyâre primarily metal
well the point of having different factions is so that each faction has its own unique play style and experience, or at least thats what i understand.
if that is the case, then i think it would be best to not get to close of a resemblance to the ascendancy.

[/quote]thats not neccessarily true, for instance, they could change the way the masons chisel is made instead. so you still go from potter -> mason -> blacksmith
Yes. They mentioned on stream that this was the new planned progression for those classes, but there wasnât much discussion on how to enable it in terms of recipes for tools. A stone hammer with a ceramic handle doesnât make much sense for instance.
Good point. Another option could be to have the mason promotion by another means and have the mason craft his own tool set ( basically starting out bashing rocks together as stone tools and then using those to craft his hammer/chisel. Possibly make the promotion require a level 2 or 3 potter who would craft some other item used by a mason (workbench maybe, then placement would allow promotion of the potter to mason)
If this is the faction that has a trade focus - why not allow a trade good?
A common tactic in game today is to make lots of wooden shields just for trade. Let the potter make some specific items just because of resale value. Perhaps vases or china.
When you level up that potter let them use that gold and silver youâve been smelting to make superior trade goods.
Hey @Tom,
Well, thereâs one quick thing to ask here. Are you planning to have the potter only be allowed in desert-type biomes, is it an entirely new class for everyone, or is it only for the Rayyaâs Children faction?
If itâs for all biomes, and only for the Rayyaâs Children faction, then Iâd go with the following:
- Plates.
- Cups.
(Iâm not sure if you plan to make that an element of the game, having crafters actually make the plates before the Hearthlings can use them while eating. If this will not be a feature, I think little items like these would be great for placing around a house/building solely for decoration.)
- Flower/flora pots.
- Water pots.
(Although there are small and large urns already for storage, Iâm not sure if that counts towards water. If not, then, well, âWater Potsâ will be needed⌠just like those squarells.)
- Figurines.
- (Not a good, but a crafting station) A kiln and a pottery wheel.
How can you not have a pottery wheel when stuff like this can happen!:
[Look at my name. Of course Iâm going to have a Leslie Nielson reference somewhere!]
Other than that, I think everyone on here has named almost everything that could be made by clay in a medieval setting.

what iâd like to see would be dish you can put in a crate or cupboard in your dining room.
eating with dishes could make eating more satisfying.
otherwise iâd really like to see decorative urns and flower pots.
some new stuff to build with clay would be great too. if not bricks, you could give us some wall decoration for stone-made walls. or new roofs etc
Mugs you say? And maybe those Tasty Beverages will follow soon. One can hope.
