[Con] Saved game disappeared

Ah yes, I just experianced this after 10hrs of play I decided to start overwriting. All my saves are gone. But still in the saves folder, just wont load. :frowning:

I finally have a save in r195 that fairly consistently creates this bug. The current game was started in r195 and have not used a mod while playing this scenario. The town has around a dozen residents and a ā€˜wealthā€™ over 100k. There are also 4 small buildings in the process of being built (might be what triggers the bug).

Files ā€” Tau Ceti Labs (save file)

To reproduce the bug:

  • Load the save file
  • Let the game run for 5 to 10 minutes
  • Save the game using ā€˜new saveā€™

The result is usually that the save is unable to complete, only saving the client state into a new folder. I have successfully reproduced this 4 times in a row using the steps above.

Hi Moeā€“great work narrowing this down. But, Iā€™ve noticed your save file you posted only has the client.bin file in it. Do you still have the full save with the server.bin? Thanks for your help!

This could be a problemā€¦

I have overwritten the original file trying to get more information on the bug. I have a save file of the game, but all the saves now generate the ā€˜assertion failedā€™ error when loading. The previous link now holds the new save file.

Hope this helps in some way.

After the other save corrupted, I created a whole new save that also encounters this error.

At the time of save there are 4 buildings being constructed and about a dozen workers mobbing the scene. The combination of multiple houses with many workers is my best guess at what frequently triggers this, although it seems to happen randomly even with just a few workers. I have yet to be able to produce a save file after 5 minutes of opening the save.

Anyway, I present you the mighty town of Kittenside! ā€¦

To reproduce the bug:
ā€¢ Load the save file
ā€¢ Let the game run for 5 to 10 minutes
ā€¢ Save the game using ā€˜new saveā€™

The result is usually that the save is unable to complete, only saving the client state into a new folder. I have successfully reproduced this numerous times using the steps above.

Found something that might help @sdee / @not_owen_wilson ,

This also seems to occur if only one building is under construction.

Personal opinion: I am not convinced this error is strictly due to the construction of a building, but having buildings constructed by many concurrent workers might trigger the bug more frequently that other citizen-related tasks.

about an hour into playing after the latest save update for Alpha 7 my game stops saving games. I figure its because of the million saves in my folder so i delete them all. this does not fix the issue. now i canā€™t make any savesā€¦ all good goblins kept killing my workers and no new villagers in a while. reading now it may be too close the mountains edge?? anyway. when i try to save now it does nothing, i canā€™t exit or do much then the options menu disappears and the game resumes with this message, nor can i close it.

Itā€™s still happening with the saves. Even after current quick fix. I would upload file, but it wont let me. lol

I have a current game, with this save bug again. Also in the game is the lag while eating, mining, flooring, and roading. An A.I. bug is found here too. And the screenshot bug

A few buildings buildings and roads. Also 22 villagers are in this save. But I cant upload the file only Screenshots

The save problem still here. Just so you all know. Current build Dev 2081

Hi, yesterday i updated the game to the fix, so i continued my game, all goes fine, and i saved my new progress, the save windows showed me a tip that said that the last save is not yet compatible so i overwrite it with the new progress and i dont had any problem and exit the game, this morning i will go to play and the game dont show me any continue button, and only let me start a new game, but in my folder have the bins of my game.
sorry for my english

that is the log when y run the game.

any advice to restore my game?

I have had multiple saves disappear around day 20. I assume itā€™s related to the size bug in the patch notes.

Day 18 and the save issues have started reappearing for me. :disappointed:

We six tend to play very short-lived games, since every dayā€™s checkin
breaks yesterdayā€™s saved games. What would you guys advise as the
fastest regular way to repro this?

Can you programmatically generate saves without actually playing the game? If you canā€™t do that then just play the game for 4 hours.

You could also make reporting/submitting saves easier. If they werenā€™t binary dumps you could then easily filter them and search through them.

I donā€™t understand why the game isnā€™t writing out saves that work between daily changesā€¦ Just dumping state to disk is part of the problem. Since obviously the game is in alpha and often in an inconsistent state. Writing to disk is an opportunity to have a well defined state and to make sure data is well formed and being stored properly.

After the game gets out of alpha, whatever obfuscation can be added, but right now, it seems like making the saves as easy to read and modify as possible would be good for everyone.

I just experienced another failed save using Dev2083.

My village of ā€œEast Farlandiaā€ (Hello Kurt!) is in day 22 with LOTS of resources and some 20(ish) Hearthlings mulling about. There is some mining going on and several squads of Goblins hanging around the wall I built to keep them away from my trapper. The jerks killed off two trappers and Iā€™m not having any more of that!

The failed saves issue started happening again several game days ago and is getting worse. I did notice that when this happens both the server_state and client_state files are generated but the others are not.

Saved games and logs can be found at: http://www.majesticdirect.com/stonehearth/SH_BlockHeadTimo_Failed_Saved.zip

Thanks for all you do! This game is AWESOME!

The village of ā€œEast Farlandiaā€ is no more. It lasted in to day 24. The game simply refuses to save. I am supplying all the logs, the past couple successful and attempted saves and my system information in case it can be of use.

Time to build anew!!

Okay! This bug is still present in the latest build! 201.

It happened to me twice, 1 around day 19, the other around day 9.

More people seem to have this problem:

I was recording this weeks episodes last night when I ran into a nasty bug right after I recruited my 18th Hearthling into my little town. The game would become unstable and eventually crash to desktop, also if I tried to save the game with new game it would do nothing. If I tried to save with overwrite the save I overwrote would disappear.

Using an Old save I was able to consistently track it down to right after the daily update that gave me the 18th Hearthling.

Ya i hate this bug! But they are going to be making a 64 bit version of the game that should fix these issues!

Hope they release is sooner than later
