Summary:
The shadows produced by the AO can be seen through tree. This happens with people and with other inanimate objects.
Steps to reproduce:
- Start the game
- Turn AO on
- Embark anywere on the map
Expected Results:
Nice shadows that can’t be seen through other objects

i took the liberty of directly embedding the images in your post (you’ll be able to do this as well, once you’ve been on the discourse a bit longer)… to be honest, i wasnt entirely sure what you were reporting, until i saw the images… so, thanks for that! 
Flabber my gast. That…is fascinating. It almost looks like the near-plane of the camera is pushed out during the AO pass, but we don’t do that (and it doesn’t explain other artifacts–only some of the farther geometry has AO shading.) Time to start digging!
