I played around a few minutes (just for fun) and translated a few sentences/words in the english file. I have issues with the letters åäö  I guess a lot of letters in various languages will have this issue as well, so maybe someone already know how to solve it? My guess is that special letters need a syntax/code or something similar to hyperlinks with spaces or special letters…?

Maybe hard to see the problem if you don’t understand swedish, but the first word should be “Märk” and not “Mä rk” and so on.

What?! How did you get this to work? :disappointed:

If you just extracted the stonehearth.smod, went into it, went into locales and edited the en.json like I’m inferring from your post, I’m gonna be unhappy why it didn’t work for me.

Well, sorry to make you unhappy, but that’s exactly what I did. As can be seen below I have installed it from Steam, and edit the local files.

F:\Spel\Steam\SteamApps\common\Stonehearth\mods
Open stonehearth.smod with 7-zip. Browse to:
stonehearth.smod\stonehearth\locales
Open en.json. Edit away! Save, exit. 7-zip will say something like “The file has changed… do you want to save?”, I don’t remember the exact words, but that’s it.

Start game and witness the miracle of your translation skills!

For Rayya’s sakes, what is going on?! :frowning:

I will get to the bottom of this, and then my files will all be in trouble.

The only thing I can think you’re doing is going into /stonehearth/locales and then trying to open en.pak and not going into stonehearth/locales/mods/ opening stonehearth.smod and then going to stonehearth/locales within that and findin the .json file

Nope, I’m doing the second one you described with en.json, I can’t even get into .pak files. Perhaps r14 would work better. But it does seem something’s up; I’m having significant trouble with both Miturion’s and Avairian’s mods, and Avairian’s was particularly easy to do, simply put his file in the right folder, and delete the other thing. I’m 99.9% confident I did that correctly. But still nothing. I wonder whether its found its own vanilla stonehearth.smod that it’s running off or something, because my changes don’t do anything no matter what. :disappointed:

I use the r14, but have no mods installed. Never tried it in first release, so I don’t think I can help you. But when you figure it out, please notify us!

Maybe that’s it. Looks like it’s time to either force update it somehow, or reinstall it. If I can get it going, I’ll absolutely share, and also put up the Arabian ‘mod’ if it’s ok with @amegaara?

Talking about special symbols for letters, I’ve been doing a rough translation on the en.json file and I don’t like either the result. Letters with accents show small as if to be the same size as the other letters. I’ll make research and report it on the other forum if it isn’t there, but if it counts as a bug it’s not going to be prioritized, probably.

Oops… I think this was r10 :persevere: well I’ll keep investigating.

well if you can make the arabic letters come out fine im all for it  @Smokestacks

im still working on the other lines to try to find a good translation for them to not be confusing and will update you if i got the full list and update me on any new lines the game is adding to the text files and ill be happy to put them up with the rest on the translation list

“a little credit wouldnt hurt too”

edit: and btw any screenshot i can see??

I have wondered if that’ll be alright, and I guess we’ll just have to wait and see on that one

Awesome!

Oh absolutely! If I can figure out how to get it in the mod, I will, but if I can’t I’ll call it Amegaara’s Arabian Translation.

I wish :disappointed: I really can’t see what I’m doing wrong, so tomorrow I’ll back up my translation file then reinstall Stonehearth in an attempt to get it to run my changes. If that works I’ll get a screenshot up!

Also, tried to translate something to polish and finished with no good results with ‘polish letters’:
Letters, which have Serif font: Aą Ćć Ęę Łł Ńń Óó Śś Źź Żż.
Letters, which are replaced by other chars: Aą Ćć Ęę Łł Żż
Letters, which aren’t even showing: Źź
Not checked: Ńń Śś

EDIT
One question, does anyone tried to find an unicode font, which could be useful in place of Berlin Sans?

For the moment it might not make so much sense to start already with translations. Every patch something else is added which requires translations and there is not yet a suitable way to do it… other than replacing the hard coded text.

Agreed, but as we have done now (highlight our issues with various special symbols or letters) could be of help for Radiant. In case of the font used is not suitable for languages beyond english. So far most (all?) letters seems to work, but just look or behave strange…

The bottom line is that we want to be as prepared as possible before starting with the real work

I don’t know what tools would be required to do the translation work smoothly, never been involved in such work before. But since text is attached to structured labels I guess it shouldn’t be that hard to use already existing or create tools to create translated text files.

If I could get it working, I definitely plan to see if the following work in the font:

  • Greek
  • Russian
  • Arabic
  • Chinese
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • Thai

Are there any other languages that use a non-Latin alphabet that are likely to be used?
