Trying to undo or erase parts of building when still in custom builder mode


So i come back to this game every update and have noticed that the building seems to be getting worse. I used to be able to build 2 story buildings occasionally but now i can’t seem to build anything custom without the workers just stopping halfway through. But thats not what this is about, a problem i get almost every time is building a custom building, nothing too big or fancy, but if i make a mistake, i want to erase it with the eraser tool.

My issue is that the eraser tool only seems to work on floors and roofs. I can’t erase any walls with it, i can’t get rid of any walls unless i remove the whole building, and even then there is a 50% chance that it won’t erase it all and i then have to start a new world because it wont delete no matter what i do.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create a 2 story building without a roof
  2. Use the eraser tool to try and remove walls that were placed
  3. Walls won’t remove

Expected Results:

Being able to delete walls or any blocks i click on that i’ve placed for building.

Actual Results:

Red X showing that i can’t delete it and whenever i click on the wall, it just goes off building mode


After every update since i start on Alpha 9, i hope building is fixed, it tends to get more and more broken each time i play it even though you state that you’ve fixed a lot of issues. Am i building something wrong?

Version Number and Mods in use:

Latest build to date (Alpha 18?)
No mods

I’m not sure if this is actually a bug; I think this is just the way the game is. It would be nice if we could delete walls or individual voxels. I’ve had to scrap entire templates because of this :confused:

This has always worked like that, to erase walls you’d have to use the undo tool. However, the building designer will have a pass on usability (hopefully soon), and maybe in the future we’ll be able to modify things that we weren’t able before, too.


Personally i’ve always had the issues with free standing walls that only the undo button would work but al things placed after the wall you need to undo to (in case you later find out you made a mistake) and sometimes the undo just decides to forget what he is supossed to do and does nothing at all.

Personally i feel walls should never ever be used…undo is to buggy to really depend on and mostly you wont notice a fatal wall error in a building before you done 80% of the building.

And you then lost everything…undo is also broken by so many things and sometimes it will tear down an entire building cuz you asked it to go 1 block back.

auto saves and normal save breaks undo every single time…in some extend i would sacrifice templates for the ability to fully edit buildings.

And it feels as bit of a deal breaker to me… first time you had to sacrifice a 100 hour build. Cuz of 1 damn wall you placed 70 hours ago, is just so morale breaking. it already made me have 3 breaks from the game :stuck_out_tongue:

I avoid the use of walls as much as possible because of this issue. One thing I started to do was save a new template version before I place a wall I really need (for door or window placements). This helps a little bit at least if you quickly decide you need to change things, but does not help if you get a few more versions into a build and wish you could go back and change a wall from a dozen saves ago…

I really hope they can implement a way to erase walls.
