The failed experiment of Sol Si

Ok, my re-embarkation in the One Alpha to Rule them All did not go so well… I already got to a point when the joy of creation has evaporated.

  • Wood chopping priority is wonky. They chop out one piece of wood and go to store it. Come back and chop another one… They don’t even finish cutting the tree down and run off doing something else.
  • A new arrival spawned at a place that had no direct path towards the camp (on a hill).
  • While building, Hearthlings broke one of the ladders, blocking a worker off on a roof. Poor thing, she waited for a full day until they’ve built ladders to finish the second pillar.
  • Room tool overlapping bug. I’ll make a proper bug report on this one. Basically, the rooms break if they get stacked when there had been a ceiling built with the slab tool previously.
  • Building in deeper water is impossible, the cuteness of houses on legs is out of reach.

I’m sorry your session didn’t go as planned. I’ll take a look at the save later and see if I can repro the issues.

Can you elaborate on that? Building in water should work no differently than building on land, except for performance issues when the water is being displaced.

Also, happy birthday!

Thanks! :merry:

You’ll see for yourself after launching the save. The builders are standing at the edge of the pond and fear to enter the depths that lay before them. They’ve even placed a ladder but are unable to use it… I’ve placed another one, but they did not like that one aswell.

This is a tricky one. It only happens if a building needs wood, and you have no wood available. Since building is prioritized more highly than harvesting, as soon as they harvest a log, they see that now wood is available, and building is unblocked, so they switch to building ASAP. If you have wood before you start a building, or if you have more than 4 workers available for building, this shouldn’t happen. There are workarounds to fix the behavior, but it’s a bit involved, and the potential fallout isn’t worth it for us at the moment. It may be something we improve in a later polish phase.

Thanks for the save! This should be fixed in the next release.

Not sure what happened there, and the building is already finished in the save, so it’s hard to tell.

Please do file a bug with more details!

In your save, there’s a ladder down to the lower level of the lake, but not one from the higher level of the lake to the town level. Once I add that, the hearthlings resume building normally.
