Some quick notes on Qubicle Constructor, modelling, and animating

They actually kind of wanted to do that from what I understand.

This also gives more info on how Minddesk and the StoneHearth team are looking to work together.

Just because you want it to happen doesnā€™t make it a good gamble.

Yeah it would be cool to get one with the game, but Iā€™m sure the Devs will find a cheaper or free way of being able to do that with or without Qubicle. If they donā€™t, well, scrounge up $80 not a big deal. Also, they said there would be an in-game sort of thing but that it would initially be very basic and I canā€™t remember the word he used!

Everyone just needs to calm down with the Qubicle threads and how much it costs. We are WAY off for the beta release and people are overreacting with just about everything.

Donā€™t know why I felt like being such a party pooper. (I work graveyard shift, is that an excuse?) Sorry guys. ONWARDS! x)

Excellent, thanks for that info.

@ernierock Awesome link! So it looks like Radiant Entertainment & Minddesk were thinking something similar. I really hope a deal can be reachedā€¦ and if so, I will most certainly kick in some more dough to their Kickstarter campaign. Thanks for the find.

Haha, no problem.

Itā€™s not really a find btw, you can see Iā€™m the OP of that thread :stuck_out_tongue:

@ernierock I read everything in that thread but your nameā€¦ sorry. So, great post!

Hey guys,
this is Tim from minddesk. I am the lead developer of Qubicle and I just wanted to say thanks for all the great feedback! If youā€™ve got any questions about Qubicle feel free to ask. I will try to come back here on a regular basis.
What I canā€™t say anything about at the moment is a possible co-operation with radiant while we are negotiating it. I guess thatā€™s obvious. Whatā€™s perfectly obvious too is that you donā€™t want to pay 79 bucks to mod a game that costs much much less. The price list at minddesk is 2 years old and has nothing to do with Stonehearth whatsoever.
There will be a solution for this, making everybody happy. How this will look like, letā€™s wait and see. In the meantime I will enjoy any new model you are posting here.
Have fun with Qubicle!
Cheers, Tim

Just a heads up, [urlhttp://discourse.stonehearth.net/t/pepe-s-little-voxel-corner/203] this thread [/url] also has some great work in it, @Pepe is like a duck to water with his creations

@Tim Hiya Tim,

Welcome to the forums! I was so excited to hear about cooperative situation that may be forming between Minddesk and Radiant Entertainment. I wish you guys luck and Iā€™m sure whatever is worked will be an awesome addition to an already awesome game.

Iā€™ve exported my boat as a .obj and when I open it up in 3ds max, the boat is imported into individual cubes, not the matrixes I assigned earlier. Any ideas what Iā€™m doing wrong?

Are you sure? Should import each matrix as a group of appropriately coloured cubes, but unless you move them it will just look like a whole load of cubes. If it is doing them individually I have no idea, sorry!

Well I guess Iā€™m doing something wrongā€¦ Thanks for the help anyway

I am no expert with Qubicle but arenā€™t you supposed to cut the model into individual pieces before exporting?
ie. uppertorso, lowertorso, leftleg, rightleg, head, etcā€¦
If you didnā€™t do it then I assume 3ds will take each voxel as a separate piece.

Thatā€™s what I did. I figured it out now though.

Time to revive this thing! Now that Qubicle 2.0 has come out will Stonehearth be supporting it? What happened to the Stonehearth version of Qubicle? Can we still get a hold of it?

wowā€¦ some serious necro posting!

paging @Tim!

Stonehearth is of course still supported by Qubicle 2. A cheaper version of the full package targeting modders is on its way. The old version is still available:

Please note that you wonā€™t get a free upgrade to Qubicle 2 if you purchase now.

We are doing our best to deliver the cheap version as soon as possible.

Have you considered paying some sort of royalty to Minddesk to avoid the paywall? Negotiate some sort of contract where the Stonehearth edition is ā€œpaid forā€ as part of everyoneā€™s game, so that thereā€™s a larger pool of potential modders to keep the game going years and years after launch. Minddesk gets its money and a potentially larger userbase thatā€™s familiar with its controls, Stonehearth gets its content.

Alternatively, you could also sell a copy of Qubicleā€™s Stonehearth edition as ā€œDLCā€ for Stonehearth on the Steam page. It wonā€™t be as likely to end up in every modderā€™s hands, but itā€™d still be very visible and plenty of people would pick it up just for the sake of completion.

EDIT: Apparently someone is already making a free Stonehearth modelling/modding tool. I suppose that makes a royalty system less attractive for Radiant if thereā€™s already going to be a decent open source alternative.

and the .qb file extension is open. (eg anyone can make something to make them) If im not mistaken.
