[Res] Stonehearth exits (Vista)

The game opens (via Steam) normally. I click on make a new game. I select a location for my settlement. I click Embark here. The world randomly generates. Then just before I get into the game, it exits. When I try to play the game (via Humble Bundle), it does the same thing. Help please!

Could you please give more information about your system (graphics/RAM…) ?
Also, look into stonehearth.log file and in the events log of your computer.

This could be caused by many things.

I have a Celeron Dual-Core CPU @1.80GHz, I have a 2.00GB RAM, My graphics is Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family.

I couldn’t find the stonehearth.log file. The events log said:
“A timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for the Steam Client service to connect.”

And no visible error message is shown when it crashes? Does it simply close down and that’s it, nothing else?

There is no message. It just closes.

hi @joshua_hindley2 … welcome aboard!

just for more flavor, what’s your OS?

It’s a 32-bit Vista.

Do you have any mods installed, or have changed any of the game’s files in anyway?

Normally, if something is wrong within the files themselves, it does this.

Sorry, I should have written the path. It’s inside the folder you’ve installed Steam->SteamApps->common->Stonehearth->stonehearth.log (the file)

Also what @Alfie says, first make sure your computer can run the vanilla version, because mods sometimes are not up-to-date and can prevent it from running.

Make sure you have all your drivers up-to-date, too, from the official manufacturer websites.

I assume you have resized the window to your necessity, (at first people had problems with resolution, but since the team added the options menu, that should be fixed).

Let’s hope this can be resolved and you can finally play the game.

I still cannot find the stonehearth.log file: it wasn’t there. There was a Chrome HTML Document called horde3d_log. When opened it said:

0.001 Initializing GL2 backend using OpenGL driver ‘2.0.0 - Build 7.15.10.1670’ by ‘Intel’ on 'Intel Cantiga’
0.001 Extension EXT_texture_sRGB not supported
0.001 Failed to init renderer backend, debug info following
0.001 Supported extensions: 'GL_EXT_blend_minmax GL_EXT_blend_subtract GL_EXT_blend_color GL_EXT_abgr GL_EXT_texture3D GL_EXT_clip_volume_hint GL_EXT_compiled_vertex_

Regarding what @Alfie said, I have not installed any mods or changed files. It is the vanilla version that is doing this.

Paging @not_owen_wilson.

@joshua_hindley2 Sorry to see you’re having problems! There have been a few people running into issues with their integrated graphics, namely from here onwards:

Unfortunately it might just be a waiting game for certain fixes/ optimizations to roll out, @not_owen_wilson might be able to shed some light on the above, if there’s much more to it other than they just need to get things running smoother on lower end machines.

Mm… but I have the same OS and graphics as @joshua_hindley2 and I’m able to run the game
Without fancy shadows and a bit laggy, but fairly playable. My system has more RAM and processor, though… So it might be related to optimization.

Are you at the latest version of Stonehearth? Sounds like you’re running something rather old (the check for the sRGB texture support has been gone for a while, and horde3d_log was renamed to gfx.log also a while ago).

I sold my old vista and bought a Windows 8. The game works fine on that. This thread can be closed.

Nice to see you fixed the problem.

The problem probably occurred because of bad Drivers, corrupted Files, Malicious Software, or because of the OS itself, since it is Vista. But still, good thing that you can now play the game without any problems. Also, good to know that you have a new PC.

Thanks for the update, I’ll close this up.

Should any one else have an issue with Vista I’ll just open this back up.
