Pepe's little voxel & board game corner :]

Pepe is a robot from the future, he came back to make sure that stonehearth’s fan base has more stonehearth stuff

edit: @Pepe Where would you recommend going if you wanted to get your own 3d printer?

6 hours to go, 1400 dollar. I dont know what your budget is, but they are quite expensive.

yeah but even if they sold it for very cheap I still would not buy it, last time I bought a phone I ended up with a sack of potatoes

Pepe, you lucky b******d, you’ve already got a 3D printer… walks of grumbling about how lucky we are that the most talented of us has the only equipment

Mod Edit: Language!

Me Edit: Sorry. My intense feelings of both rage and passion managed to eek out of my finger/keyboard. Won’t happen again.

I have a nice Idea for a board game but looks like im going to have to try have program a video game version. Ill probably never get round to this so dont expect ANYTHING

thanks Will, feedback is always most welcome and i’m looking forward to hear your thoughts.

biiiib…biiiib…error, false…goto protection mode. - shut down intruder! EXTERMINATE!

oh well that’s a good question… there are already a lot of different 3d printers out there in the consumer section as you can see on this list → 3ders.org - price compare 3D printers
one of the most popular hobby printers might be the MakerBot Replicator. (http://www.makerbot.com/) but it depends totally on your budgets and needs for what printer you should look for.

well not yet…my own will be shipped in February 2014 as i baked the Buccaneer ( http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pirate3d/the-buccaneer-the-3d-printer-that-everyone-can-use), but we have a large printer one at work for a few years now and we use it almost every day.

awesome! would love to hear your idea, we might have some feedback to get you started with this!

wow, the 3d printers are not as expensive as I thought they are. I dont really need one, but maybe in the future to print my own spoons

I like the idea and I think if you start a KS campaign it should go really well. Make sure you have a well put together plan for your KS campaign. I’ve seen a lot of campaigns fail because they have no idea what they want to do or they set their goal too high.

OK, guys, time to start the chanting - kickstarter… Kickstarter… KICKstartER… KICKSTARTER… KICKSTARTER!!!

@Miturion @SteveAdamo haha printing spoons will be THE next big thing mate! no seriously it’s indeed not that expensive to buy a small & simple 3d printer at the moment and they will even drop more and will have higher resolution as well in the near future…

@Skull24 @ManOfRet slowly, slowly my dear fellas… it might be an option to do a KS in the end but we are miles away from stuff like this. the idea, the core game and the artwork has to be really solid to do this. but i’m observing the whole kickstarter board game section regularly and i have seen some fantastic ideas and presentations and pretty crappy ones as well… so i guess at least i know more or less what counts if we’ll do this.

MODULAR BOARD GAME – CUSTOM TILE PROGRESS

It’s getting green! Today i’ve painted the board tiles with shades of green and applied a finely granulated structure on the surface so figures won’t glide too much on them. The good news is that even with a color layer the assembling still works perfect …the not so good news is that the jigsaw parts are still not optimized yet. I should change the design so that on every edge is a inward and outward jigsaw part. Nevertheless i have to say it’s fun to play with the tiles and construct the first mini-maps! :]

Worked also on the digital content that i want to try as board pieces on my new game board. With Qubicle Constructor i did modeling game parts like trees, wood logs, treasure chest, a well and some tiny monsters. As mentioned, can a fantasy themed game be fun without treasures & monsters?! The digital models i’ve exported and uploaded to Shapeways to do a quick price check, but Shapeways is pretty expensive so i need to find a better solution for the parts. I also had some spare time to made some general researches about 3d printing.

omg, that looks so awesome!!

i realize this is a little forward… but can we be BFFs?

seriously, this is on a scale of awesomeness that is getting harder and harder to measure… well done…

you effectively have two major products here: digital and real world board game adaptations of SH… the mind boggles…

The new concepts look totally ace. Definitely looking forward to seeing the rules.

Jesus… Ok, how about this… I get a free copy, because yes. Sound fair to you?

Oh, and the fine print also says that I get a copy of the preprealpha, the prealpha, the tech demo, the alpha, all subsequent versions of the alpha, the beta, all subsequent versions of the beta, access to your copyright and patent, all of the money you get from this…

I honestly think that you could make a solid living out of doing just this alone, good sir Pepe.

I can see many, many people using this game for a million versions of D&D. Because of the fact that you can change and add things the way you like. Also, for the fact that you can create your on custom items, monsters and heroes and you can sell them to others. This is truly a brilliant idea.

All this game needs now is giant robots because no game is complete without giant robots

As evidenced by Ireland’s “Top Secret” (Ha, we’ve got the CIA and the NSA, remember?) Project Blackrock Stonehenge, they do rather enjoy their gigantic nuclear-powered robots.

thanks a lot for the feedback, glad you guys like where we’re heading with this!

MONSTERS, TREASURES & TREES – 3D PRINTED BOARD GAME PIECES

Today i wasn’t the only one who worked on our board game idea. The 3d printer was hard working as well. After a few hours printing time the digital modeled voxel board pieces were done. I did run this batch to see what are the options at this small scale and how easy the pieces are to handle. Post processing and release the prints from the support material is always a bit of a mess but usually satisfying work as you uncover your own designs and want to hold the clean pieces in your hands as fast as possible.

Side Note: As expected the printed test tiles (same dimensions as the tiles i made in acrylic sheet) do not work as intended. The print is not as exact as the CNC pieces and the jigsaw parts don’t interlock properly. This supports the overall direction we have in mind, to choose die casting plastic bits or cardboard for the board tiles and 3d prints for all the other game pieces.
