wizzards are the great servants of Mystra the goddess of magic while mages are like the strange old men living alone in a tower in the midst of the wilderness
Other way round. Also another thing is that wizards usually live in a college together because they get pestered too much by heroes and people asking for potions when they live alone.

No, Right now I am focusing on Patrick OāBrianās Master and Commander series and I have never heard of āForgotten Realmsā
then you should not think you know anything about Mystra the lady of mysteries.
oh and you really should try to read forgotten realms it is one of the best high fantasy worlds i know

Thats a lieā¦Mages are those who are less powerful than Wizards and usually turn out to be teens hopped up on craic. Even Magi are better than Mages. Mages are what J.K. Rowling meant to say instead of Wizardsā¦BTW Harry Potter gave a bad name to Wizards.
And thats an opinion :P. Why donāt you guys argue about the different names given to magic-users elsewhere?
