Hearthlings getting stuck repeatedly in mines

I keep encountering an issue in the latest alpha available on steam (downloaded 3.10.15). In mines after my workers dig out a new section they don’t pick up any of the resources and walk away. If I then try to obtain them with the loot option non-workers like the farmer in the screen shot walk up and just pick up then drop the items one by one and walk away again. Once they have been picked up and dropped the loot icon above the item disappears ( look at some blocks behind the farmer in the screen shot).

I have plenty of space in my stockpiles but the resources don’t make it there. This basically means I cannot make and metal items in this currant alpha build.

The same does not happen if I use the mine individual block action on blocks of ore / stone visible from the surface. That works correctly and the resources then make it to the stockpiles as normal.

Just now, ~6 minutes in the same game after this bug occurred I got this UI error, I don’t know if it is related. Just before the UI error all of my hearthlings started to display the same behaviour seen in the screenshot above.

The hearthlings being unable to bring things back to the stockpiles is probably not related to the second bug. There is a variety of improvements to AI and Pathfinding which are not yet enabled in Alpha 12 because they haven’t been tested by the devs enough yet to be sure they’ll be an improvement over the current state. When they are enabled, you may see large improvements.

Anyway, that doesn’t help you right now, but at least you know they are working on it!

Have you tried looting the items one at a time?

The mass looting may be causing your AI to overload.

Or alternatively, you can “cheat” and make stockpiles underneath those items to “claim” them, and then slowly remove things from those stockpiles.

These are just workarounds for your current game and are not intended as a permanent fix, of course.

Thank you both,

Making a stockpile under the items works for now. Looting the items one by one does not solve the issue, the same behaviour occurs where a hearthling walks up to the item and picks it up then immediately drops it again.
