Grimm's Voxel Fun

first, i love the scratch pad…

and for what it’s worth, @Geoffers747 and i are revisiting the current category system, and have a little bit of a shakeup planned… nothing too spectacular, just a little more organization to helps keep things nice and tidy around here…

one of the new categories will be perfect for a mod specific thread (where folks can create topics to discuss specific mod ideas they have, including models, sample code, etc.)

im not 100% certain, but we should be rolling out the changes early this week, i would imagine…

Sounds aweomse I’ll wait for those changes then and continue with my voxeling. Yeah I’m finally getting around to watching the old live streams and when I saw him bust open his works in one file I was like man… that’s an awesome way to do haha.

This scatch pad made re-organizing my files much easier now I just have to remember to not work inside the pad otherwise I open the standalone file for one of the qubicles and it’s like two versions old lol.

plus, it shows the strength of your growing voxel army… today, your computer… tomorrow, the world!
ahem

but it must make creating new models that much easier when having access to and using an existing model… :+1:

It does indeed; it was a lot of fun lining them all up it really was like putting together an army haha.

And with that my last voxel work for tonight; a rendered picture of the Chieftan in his new armor staring off into the sunset.

Haha oops there’s an extra axe inside his body; I was wondering what happened to his old axe LOL. If you look at the top of his shield that red line is the axe.

This doesn’t count as a new voxel  because I stopped voxeling to work on this idea. I make no promises that I can make this happen but this is what I would like to do with the Pikkens. More colors would be added; I’m going based off the light spectrum of color interactions and not paint. In the light spectrum mixing all colors together makes white; in paints it makes black.

My current thinking is as follows:

Red :: Hearty Pikken has extra health and can endure more; good for battles.

Blue :: Snow Pikken performs better in ice, snow, and other cold areas. (Possibly better in water?)

Yellow :: Speedy Pikken moves faster than normal Pikkens.

Purple :: Alluring Pikken gives bonuses to charms, magics, and other things of mystery.

Green :: Hunter Pikken has increased camouflage while scouting and hunting in forests/fields.

White :: Receives any two random special properties from any of the colored Pikkens.(?)

@GrimMethod What program did you use to make these charts, I think I might work on my own with different breeds being different classes

I used Fireworks but any image editing program would work or even an excel/google docs spreadsheet.

A free alternative to Fireworks/Photoshop is GIMP.

@GrimMethod Thanks for the info

GIMP is great… paint.net is also a great free utility… :+1:

You have no idea how many times I read that as “Pikmen”… So do you have any specific ideas on how breeding would work?
My initial understanding (Correct me if I’m wrong) is
The Pikklet is the baby form and it grows up into one of the first three colors
Breeding two colors together moves you up to the next color. Is it a % chance that can be incresed by the skill of your animal handler, is it a flat % chance, or is it just boom done?

You have no idea the discussion you started in our mod group with that question lol. As of right now the class tree has expanded to 25 and now we’re talking about breeding, domesticating, and possibly genetic traits passed on from villager parents to their offspring(sort of collateral damage discussion) I’ll have more info when I’m at home from work haha.

And now I’m imagining some sort of underground black market Pikklet fighting ring.

@Geoffers747 Now imagine it with sheep Geoffers

@everyone else does anyone have an idea of how you can start with 2 flat eared dogs and breed them into pointy eared dogs? OMG we should start breeding topic

Are you talking in reality here? Cause you’ll need a lot more than 2 dogs … to cut a long story short, you’d just breed the dogs with the ‘pointiest’ ears, and then keep doing that until you ended up with pointy eared dogs … it would take a fair few years as well.

@Geoffers747 Well…Poop

Anyway, back on topic!

Grim, I’m loving your stuff and can’t wait to see what you have in store!

Haha you guys; class number 26 Fight Promoter?! I think it’s already too crazy with 25. I was planning on having Pikkens as a temporary name but it’s almost taken on a life of its own. I made it from frustration when I couldn’t do the feathers and got tired of thinking “piece of sh*t chickens” so Pikkens lol.

I’m actually surprised nobody has ever used the work Pikkens for something chicken related … maybe they have, my quick googling didn’t throw anything productive up though.

Well, in Dutch “pikken” means “to pick” or “to chose” and sounds a bit like “picken”, which would be German and means “to pick”… quite close, no?
