Game stops saving at "Saving...."

No problem, I’m not sure if it’s a solid fix or not, but it hasn’t failed me yet

I have completely deleted the file and also deleted all local data from steam about Stonehearth. There was nothing on my computer about Stonehearth at all. Re-installed the game, tried up a world and what do you know? I am still getting this error. Is there any outside files outside of the stonehearth steam folder? Like, something im not deleting that might be corrupted? If not then im assuming its just a game problem and not going to play for a while, I want to help look for other bugs and all but not going to waste my time building a town I can’t save…

I don’t believe so, I haven’t changed anything. I’m playing Alpha 10.5 on steam, if you are asking if I have the ‘latest’ build option on steam active then no, I have been playing on “opt out of all betas”.

I had this issue before too. Started many times over trying things to fix it. I think i found a solution for this. The game has problems to create a savefile from auto save if there is no savegame yet. When you first create a savegame, disable the option automatically save periodiacally and save the game. after that, enable the option automatically save periodiacally and just close the window with X worked for me.

Don’t use the overwrite button. That does not seem to work properly. somehow the savegame folder stays read-only, which is probably causing these issues. Not sure if this is causing the problem. Saving broke again after I used the overwrite button, so there is something wrong with that. Let’s see if we can fix that :slight_smile:

One reason that the game has trouble saving is because the game is out of memory. If you are having trouble saving, are you running on a 32 bit OS, or a 64 bit OS? If you are running on 64bit, is 64bit support turned on in settings? If not, can you turn it on and see if this solves your problem?

There is no console command for save that I know of (maybe we could add one) but if you’re out of memory, the console is not going to help you. We do have a "secret save: button that works if you want to turn on your debug keys via the user settings; it is F6, and you will load your F6 secret save with F7. We use this for debugging, when we don’t want to bother with the UI. However this also will not work if you are just plain out of memory.

Okay, yeah I have 8 GB, and this game is barely using 3. Okay so that got me thinking anyways, and I went to the game launch options to allocate more ram to the game, thinking that might help the problem…

Hm, thansk for checking! Well if it’s not a memory problem, then it’s a world-state problem: something about your town state is unaccounted for by our save system. Can you post a screen of your town from the last good save before you stopped being able to save (assuming that you were able to save earlier? Or have you never been able to save?) If you try saving at different points of time, (5 min, 10 min, 20 min after the last good save) are any of the saves able to complete?

I have never been able to save. Ever. Not a single one of my towns, have tried with 50 different brand new towns that ive started after doing something that I think would help solve the problem… :frowning:

Anyways, there’s alot about the Lua Script messing up or whatever, could that be the problem?

Also, WHY IS IT SAYING IT SAVED? it did not!! theres not even anything in the saves folder except for the temp save that disappears when I close the game… :frowning:

Why does your game not have permission to write to the saved_games folder? That’s odd. Even non-admin users should be able to write there…

Aha, looks familiar! @ponder says he may have a fix for this, whenever we next release a patch (soon, hopefully). In the meantime, do you indeed have permission to write to that folder?

I don’t understand, what folder? how do I write in it? why wouldn’t I be able to? I run the game as an admin and im on the owner profile on my computer and have the permissions to everything… huh
