[Con] After X hearthlings the engine basically stops functioning

Time and time again I get my little town to about 23 Heartlings and then it all falls apart.

Farmer function correctly but everything else just… stops functioning.

I get something similar where occasionally individual Heartlings will stop eating food and will remain stationary not performing any tasks.

Usually they end up starving to death and I have to replace them with new immigrants, but it’s really frustrating when it’s a high level crafter who’s hard to replace.

Sometimes you can “snap them out of it” by turning your town alert off and on, but this doesn’t always work.

The number of hearthlings you can have is very much dependant on your computer at this point. They’re continuously optimizing and helping lighten the load but it’s a long process. Right now, depending on what else Ihave going on, I can usually get to around 28 hearthlings; but in A11 I could run about 20 before it started getting laggy. Rebooting often and if you notice them needing to think a long time before they do new tasks, you can try pausing for a few seconds to let the engine catch up. I do this fairly frequently in game to keep things smooth. Usually the bar in the lower right will turn green (idle) after a few seconds, but other times it takes as much as ten to twenty seconds

Ok, I reduced the population and that helped a bit; though I noticed sometimes the characters clip into the geometry and that causes them to get stuck until they inevitably starve to death.

I’m not really sure why they occasionally clip into the ground; you can get them to leave by turning the town alert on and off but they stubbornly refuse to leave that spot, sleeping and eventually dying of starvation.

Having some performance issues. Up around 9 citizens I start getting some fps drops. Where the screen will freeze up for a second or so every 10-15 seconds. I wish there was a way to disabled the cloud passes because it usually happens when they are going buy on the ground. Once I turned all graphics to low things seemed to smooth out just a bit, but I have a pretty beefy computer and not sure why I am lagging.

@8BitCrab, needs a performance tag, likely can be merged with a number of other performance related topics for alpha 12, I know I made one a week or so ago, and there have definitely been others…

Not sure what your issue is, I get to around 18-20 citizens and then start noticing lag so usually stop growing around there.

the category is changed, but I am unable to merge on this blasted phone … I’m sure @8BitCrab will get to it before I’m in the office this morning … :smile:
