Summary:
My cleric keeps healing all of the farm animals and will not eat even though she’s starving.
I currently don’t have a cook to make animal feed, hence, the animals are starving and losing health.
Because the animals are not full health, the cleric is healing them (fair enough) however, the cleric is doing this even though she is -35 starving.
Steps to reproduce:
Create a farm full of animals with no food
Let the animals starve to the point where they start losing health
Make sure one of your hearthlings is a cleric
Expected Results:
Cleric should eat when he / she is hungry
Actual Results:
Cleric is healing all of the animals to the point where he / she starves themself.

We were recently talking about this. The cleric can starve but since he can just heal himself, he won’t even die.
Probably an issue related to AI priority
I have had a similar problem, my cleric was too busy healing other people that she wouldn’t eat anything and started starving to death. This is linked with a problem I have where my hearthlings take damage for no apparent reason, making the cleric come and heal them instead of eating something. I had to switch my cleric back to a worker so she would eat, and then to a cleric again when she had eaten. My cleric also stays behind to heal randomly damaged hearthlings in an attack, instead of healing my troops.
I have had the same problem but i think when i had this issue it was related to café mod that i just needed up update it to fix it for alpha 22.5 but Café is broken in Alpha 23 as for now if it did not get fixed very recently with the drinking.
Not seen it in Alpha 23 and not sure if i seen it for normal food but i would’t be surprised the healers are doing many things wrong atm such as healing workers instead of soldiers
One thing you can do is uncheck his/her job box in the hearthling roster. Doing so makes her ignore her job so she will do other things, i.e. take care of herself or haul. I think what may cause it is the cleric and herbalist are meant to heal, so when there are things that need healing they will heal it, and if it was the cleric, she probably didn’t do anything because the code may have overpowered the eating thing when it comes to herself being injured. Clerics at a certain level and up will have access to an ability to actively heal in an area around them, including themselves, so that’s probably why she didnt fix the issue of her being injured, is the game thought she was, when in fact, she wasn’t. Sorry if that was confusing.
do you happen to have the Stonehearth Cafe mod installed? if so is it the loose file version or the smod version? because the smod verison isn’t up to date and thus won’t show that animals and hearthlings need to drink something and causes issues with clerics in turn since they’re thirsty and can’t find anything to drink they lose health when at their limits similarly to how they need FOOD and when starving at some point begin to start to lose health.
Summary:
I have 2 shepherds, 3 pastures that are 33x33 one for each animal, and have plenty of feed from the cook. I also have my shepherds with everything deselected but doing their job. My farm animals are continually starving to the point my cleric is doing nothing but standing in the field and healing them. They spend more time talking than doing their job. I enjoy the talking and social aspect of the game, but my hearthlings seem to get nothing done because they are always socializing. It may be tuned a little high.
Steps to reproduce:
Create a Shepherd
Create pastures
let the game run
Expected Results:
Shepherds care for the animals Actual Results:
Shepherds don’t feed animals Notes:

It happened before I turned hauling off, I figured that it might get them to focus, it happens that they get the food to the pasture but drop it to talk to someone, and someone comes behind them and puts it back, which starts the cycle again…as the poor animals starve.

Now that livestock slowly lose health while they’re waiting to be fed, the dutiful Cleric now feels its his duty to save their souls. At all costs.

Steps to reproduce:
Fill a few livestock pens with livestock.
Promote someone to Cleric.
Wait for the livestock to start starving.

I’m actually not sure. On one hand, this is cool and seems to make sense for the class. On the other hand, it renders him almost entirely incapacitated obsessively trying to top them all off.

I’d consider it exploitable for super easy leveling since the cleric gains XP whenever they heal. Of course they’re useless while you’re doing it but they’d probably be lvl6 in no time.
