Just looked up how to open up the console, attempted to “instant build”, got the following error (1 of 2, but I missed the other one):

I’ve been away for many moons, (mostly due to this broken and unreliable building issue), but can someone explain this “Instabuild” method? It may just bring me back to the game.
“instabuild” is a console command that does exactly what it sounds like, instantly builds any… well… buildings you have, to use this method/command,
select the building you want to be instabuilt
open the console with Ctrl+C
type the command ib into the console
hit enter
the building should instantly build, if not, double check and make sure you had the building selected. you can close the console the same way you opened it (i think you can also hit Esc)
by “select” i mean selecting the “ghost” template thats placed in the world, that can be seen when in the build menu, when you select the ghost it should come up with the building editing UI
Ok, I have a building problem I haven’t quite seen before. I can’t place the building correctly. I think the problem is largely due to the UI limitations.
The “building” in this case is a 10x10x10 staircase, made out of “foundation” blocks.
I dug out the stairway, built the lower half of it just fine, and then couldn’t place the upper half. It bugs out and tries to build it way up in the sky instead.
Sure, it has another bug on load so I was trying to upload it anyway. Template as well. The first half of the pattern built fine but was built directly – when I tried to place the same template, one set of “flights” up – you can see the blank space where it would have gone – it won’t place right or I can’t make it place right.
This has probably been said or you guys already know about it… A lot of my builds are getting stuck due to scaffolding being built on. In other words, hearthlings are placing scaffolding where your building and a block literally is placed on the bottom piece of scaffolding. Not sure if it is in the hearthlings order que to dismantle the scaffolding before the entire building is finished but because the scaffolding was built ‘on’ the user is no longer able to destroy the scaffolding which in some cases can get the hearthlings back on track.
See my post up above for more detail, the TL;DR:
Hey All, have a building that won’t build. Spent a bunch of time trying to put it together. Nothing crazy complex, was just supposed to be a one story giant dining hall with a bunch of single and double person rooms on the back half. Had to make it two story to get a roof on it for some reason.
The first two screenshots have the mining view turned on; the third has it turned off. As you can see, the game is insisting on placing my road square an entire z-level above where I’m actually trying to place it, even when I have the view of that level turned off. Same map and game as above, though this is now in the updated release 15.
That whole row of rooms, the plans won’t place in the doorway blocks, but other doorway blocks in the same game, the road tiles place fine, as can be seen here (look at top hallway vs bottom hallway):
I have everything listed as needed for the build, and over 150 wood for scaffolding. The strange thing is that an alternate version of this tower fully built on the same map just a few days ago, so I don’t know why this one isn’t working.
Update: In A15 R535, the build went back to being built the same way as before, and did see a few stuck builders, but fewer than before, so that’s good. Alas, it still stalls when it hits the rooftop and battlements, exactly as before.
This still builds on my end–have you adjusted your template since last posting it? (Also, I’m tracking another bug that appears to be building rotation-related, which might have something to do with this problem…) (edit: in reply to @megashub)
I was able to build this structure, but rotating the template yields some curious errors. Also, building too close to the edge of a cliff can cause problems for hearthling scaffolding, though I think the placement you have in the screenshot above is okay…
There might be some “edge case” issues, yeah. Oddly, the game wouldn’t let me place that template in an older save in that spot – I had to build it in that location by hand. Maybe because carving out that staircase drove it crazy? I dunno.
I do have an alternate, earlier version of this tower that built fine – it was a story taller, the internal stairs were placed differently, and fewer decorations. I hadn’t posted it here though because it worked!
