So I chopped a bunch of trees down and none of my workers wanted to place the wood in my main stockpile (I had space and it was open to all resources. They would just stand around waiting. Finally I built a pile next to them and they placed it there. In the picture the blue is the wood and where they placed it (after I built a new pile) and the red shows that there was an open pile with wood in it and allowed wood in it.
