Walls vanish from building template when placed

Summary:
I created a building template, but whenever I try to use it it bugs out and deletes the floors, walls and stairs
This is not the first time I’ve had a problem with the building templates doing this, but is the most extreme.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. created a weaver’s house with 2 storeys, saved as a template
  2. placed the template by chosing a spot and clicking.
  3. Threw up 24 errors, and deleted the ground floor walls, stairs and first floor (but not the first floor walls, furniture or roof)
  4. clicked ‘remove’ (because wtf?)
  5. Most of the house is removed, except for ground floor doors and windows… and is in design mode for some reason.

Expected Results:

  1. Building template places intact and looks like it did when designed.
  2. Clicking remove should remove it completely and return you to the template list

Actual Results:

  1. Building template sometimes doesn’t place properly and deletes stuff - sometimes furniture and decorations (tho no in this example), walls, small sections of a wall, floors, foundations, roofs, the bit that joins the wall to the roof, doors and windows.
May also make the area unusable to build on - even though the building was removed.
  2. clicking remove has mixed results and sometimes takes you to design mode instead of returning you to the template list.

Ouch! :stuck_out_tongue: What were some of the errors you saw? Also, does this happen in any game or just in this world? (Like, if you try to use the template in a fresh game.)

Thanks for uploading both the savefile and the template!
Like the error says, did you destroy some parts of the building design using console commands (before you saved the template)?

It seems to be throwing different errors than the usual exploding templates. 24 errors like this but changing the id:

No, I didn’t know about console commands until I looked at other peoples solutions to this problem.
I didn’t use them to delete anything.
I had just been building with the tools given in the game, had used undo, found that sometimes undo didn’t work, then saved the template before trying to build it and it giving errors and deleting stuff.

If you press the “print”-key the game will save a screenshot.
You should update your game, the version is old isn’t it @Relyss?
Or better reinstall it.

That’s A21, there’s no problem in playing the stable version while we finish the current Alpha.

In any case, the template will keep having that problem in A22, we’re still investigating. But it’s good to know that undo was involved, maybe it’s the cause of the disappearing walls.

Yes, aware of print screen - did that but all I got was black from it - like the game screen didn’t capture - tried it on my desktop and it was fine :confused

i use the steam screenshots with F12… if it makes any difference :jubilant:

Oo thanks will try that :slightly_smiling_face:
