I was making a megaproject using my Miners, carving out an enormous space in the ground. Due to the size of the space involved, I have eventually decided to clear out the dropped stone and ore instead of using it for blacksmiths, or even selling it. I have noticed that when I select a wide area of ground to clear the ore from, mining zones are included in the deletion, and some hidden item is indeed “removed” by a hearthling. The zones disappear, and the miners stop mining. While easy to play around, this is inconvenient, and I’d rather it did not happen.
