Unable to start Stonehearth in Alpha 11

My friend has the same problem, he can play alpha 10.5 but when he tries to start in alpha 11 he gets a black screen.

I downloaded the dropbox and tried it. It still crashed here is the log:

3 questions:

  1. firewall off?
  2. which graka?
  3. fresh install? have you deleted all files from C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Steam?

Firewall is off
what is graka?
I tried it before then tried it with a fresh install and had the same output

Edit: Firewall is on but Stonehearth have permission through it

graka = graphiccard … sry german shortening ^^

try to set your firewall offline and test it again - mostly the firewall blocks the connection with the stonehearth server … also there are lots of programms which blocks them - like kaspersky etc ^^

@0nTh3dge does your user_settings.json file (located in the same directory as the stonehearth.log) has the game options or it only has your user id?

Were you playing in fullscreen?

My user_settings.json file only has the user id
Yes I play in fullscreen but when starting it was windowed till it got to the main menu in Stonehearth 10.5

My graphics card is a nVidia GeForce 630m

And I tried with firewall off and the game starts for about 2 seconds before disappering with nothing popping up

Edit: nVidia GeForce 630m 2gb and its a laptop graphics card

Has this thread been forgotten because I still cant play and I feel like I lost my money only having 15 hrs ingame.

my apologies… i actually had forgot about it… :neutral_face:

[/quote]perhaps try pasting this one into there,

that fixed it for someone else recently, also are you attempting to play A11 stable or A12 “unstable”?

also, could you provide your .log file? i know you provided it before but it would be best to get a new “updated” one.

So I still use Stonehearth 11 stable

I tried your help and it crashed saying it could read that file.

And the log didn’t even record because it crashed before anything happened.

Hey there @0nTh3dge, I am going to page @not_owen_wilson again, as he was assisting you previously. It is Sunday (at least it still is in the US), but I am sure he will get to you soon.

The crash continues into Stonehearth Alpha 12

Hey there @0nTh3dge, thanks for bumping this thread again. Let’s see if we can get you up and running now.

Please try the following steps (even if you have already done them before, want to start with a clean slate here):

  1. Please delete the entire Stonehearth folder from C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common.

  2. Please verify that your Intel Drivers and NVIDIA drivers are up to date by visiting Download Drivers | NVIDIA and Intel® Support

  3. Please reinstall the game via Steam.

  4. Please launch the game and see if it crashes.

  5. If it crashes, please replace your user_settings.json file with the following: (be sure to replace user_id with

     {
         "user_id" : "YOUR ID HERE",
         "collect_analytics" : true,
         "enable_auto_save" : false,
         "renderer" : {
             "run_once" : true,
             "use_high_quality" : false,
             "enable_ssao" : false,
             "enable_shadows" : false,
             "shadow_resolution" : 256,
             "msaa_samples" : 0,
             "shadow_quality" : 1,
             "max_lights" : 30,
             "enable_vsync" : false,
             "enable_fullscreen" : false,
             "screen_width" : 1920,
             "screen_height" : 1018,
             "draw_distance" : 1000
         },
         "audio" : {
         "bgm_volume" : 0.6,
             "efx_volume" : 0.6
         },
         "enable_lua_jit" : false,
         "force_32_bit" : true,
         "language" : "en"
     }

  6. Please try launching the game again.

  7. If you are unable to start the game after all of the above steps are followed, please post your Stonehearth.log and upload your crash.dmp file here. Please note that you will likely need to compress your crash.dmp to a zip file before uploading.

Good luck!

@0nTh3dge - Here are a few things to try on the latest alpha 12 branch to diagnose what’s going on:

  1. What brand is your laptop?

  2. Update your Intel drivers if you haven’t already, and set the Nvidia control panel to always use the integrated (Intel) chip and post the stonehearth.log file for this.

  3. Set the Nvidia control panel to always use the Nvidia chip and see if it runs.

  4. Plug in an external monitor and see if it runs.

Alright, thanks for testing everything for us. Let me repage @Albert and @not_owen_wilson to come take a look at the new log.

  1. I have an HP laptop
  2. It started fully with the Intel integrated, and now with the Nvidia. It also started when back on the initial setting of let Nvidia choose which to use.

Thanks for all the help. I’m glad to say it finally works!

I forgot to mention that i kept the updated user.settings.json file
