Stonehearth: The Third Age is a so-called ‘total conversion’ mod for Stonehearth.
A total conversion is a mod of an existing game that replaces virtually all of the artistic assets in the original game, and sometimes core aspects of gameplay. Total conversions can result in a completely different genre from the original.
As you can read in the snippet above, a ‘total conversion’ mod aims to give a game a complete overhaul. The idea behind Stonehearth: The Third Age is to let players experience the realm of The Lord of the Rings inside Stonehearth. This will be done by changing the races to the races from Tolkien’s world, changing the gear and maybe even overhauling the map.
Factions
The idea is to capture every different faction from Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, which is more or less possible when we get some inspiration from other Lord of the Rings mods, Third Age: Total War for example. Right now the idea is to include the following 13 factions:
Gondor
Rohan
Silvan
Tareldar
Dwarves
The Dale
Free Peoples of Eriador
Isengard
Orcs of Misty Mountain
Gundabad
Mordor
Harad
Rhûn

Well, it would seem @LegendHoods has broken off and is trying to work on his own competitive mod that will end up fighting the other mod for the glory of middle earth.
Ironically, that’s where I started. From what I’ve seen that mod is heading more towards a Hobbit roleplaying RTS (I probably got that wrong.) instead of what I have in mind.
Edit: No hard feelings towards anyone, I just wanted to be able to do more myself than ‘just’ contribute.
