The event log from Windows is complaining about a graphics library, and the stonehearth.log doesn’t show that the graphics finish initializing.
I might be wrong (it could be something messing with Chrome, for sure), but it also could be due to the graphics. Have you verified that you have the latest drivers from here: Download Drivers | NVIDIA ?
Also, do you remember which file was Avast complaining about?
The installed g-force experience software usually informs me of available updates, but after reading multiple posts recommending that I check, I did so. I do have latest updates installed.
I do not know what file Avast was suspicious of. I’m at work until Wednesday, but as soon as I get a chance I will repeat the steps. Deleting local content, uninstalling program and re-installing to see if I can get Avast to repeat the message. I will post what it says as soon as I can.
Last night I deleted the SH folder, then uninstalled SH through steam. I downloaded and re-installed the game, but this time Avast did not make so much as a peep.
I don’t use Avast, so I don’t know, but maybe there’s a tab or something somewhere that lists all the files it’s tried to block? You could look there and see if there’s anything from the stonehearth folder.
Yes, I had hoped for the same thing. If There such a history, I could not
find it. I only found a history section for past threats from scans. It
was empty. I ran a complete scan with no threats detected.
The event log entry shows that the crash is in the nVidia OpenGL 64-bit driver. One thing you could try is to run Stonehearth in 32-bit mode. It’s not an ideal fix, but it could help figure out what the root of the issue is. To do this, open the user_settings.json (in your main Stonehearth folder) in notepad, and add “force_32_bit”: true (or change it from false to true if it already exists).
I looked into this more and it seems that you may need to do a reinstall of Windows 10 on the OS drive.
I would try to get a flash drive or something similar and transfer any files that you may deem important before doing this (Images, music, game saves, documents, etc.) in case something goes wrong. As well as writing down any software serial numbers you may have bought/subscribed to.
Be sure to double check for Windows updates when you’re done reinstalling.
I was thinking it might be time for that and have recently created usb installation thumbdrive. It’s been a couple of years since I built this system. Likely time for a fresh install. My only regret in taking this approach is that it would not highlight exactly what needed to be fixed. I will try some of the suggestions that you and others have given me “for science” and then do a fresh install.
I’m sorry for the delay, but it’s been really busy at work the last few weeks.
A few days after my previous post, I did complete a re-installation of Windows 10. This, so far, has solved my problem and Stonehearth appears to run normally (i’ve only had time to play an hour or so). I wish I could have figured out what the specific issue was though.
