"stonehearth has stopped working"

Right when I launch it from steam I get the little window that pops open saying “stonehearth has stopped working”

Running windows 10, 64bit, AMD Radeon R9 200 Series, external monitor

Went through all of Crashing on start? Read this! UPDATED October 18, 2016 and didnt have much luck.

I would recommend uploading your entire stonehearth.log file. If the above is all of it the easiest suggestion would be to backup your saves and then reload the game or to click properties on Stonehearth in your Steam Library and then the Local Files tab and then click Verify Integrity Of Game Files. This might repair corrupt files. Occasionally Anti-Virus may decide one or more of the Stonehearth executables are untrusted and quarantine them.

Welcome to the forum, @SilverSchiller :slightly_smiling_face:

If you’ve already done each of the suggestions of that thread, there’s still some things you can try.

Doing a full/clean reinstall:

  1. Launch Steam.
  2. Right-click Stonehearth and click Properties
  3. Click on the Local Files tab
  4. Click Browse Local Files…
  5. If you have saved games or templates to save, complete the following. Otherwise, skip to step 6 below.
  • For saved games, copy saved_games to another location, like your Desktop.
  • For templates, copy saved_objects to another location, like your Desktop.
  1. Go up one directory level to the common folder.
  2. Delete the Stonehearth folder.
  3. Close Windows Explorer and return to Steam.
  4. Right-click Stonehearth and click Uninstall…
  5. Once removed, right-click Stonehearth again and click Install Game…
  6. If you backed up saves or templates in step 5 above, do the following. Otherwise, skip to step 12.
  • Right-click Stonehearth and click Properties
  • Click on the Local Files tab
  • Click Browse Local Files…
  • Copy the backed up folders into Stonehearth folder.
  • Close Windows Explorer.
  1. Launch Stonehearth

Other option is verifying the integrity of the game files, like @stonemonkey suggests.

You can also open your user_settings.json file (it’s inside C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Stonehearth) with any text editor and change the option "force_32_bit" : false to "force_32_bit" : true, and if the game runs fine after this, it’s likely other application is messing with the game, such antivirus and the like.

Let us know if you’re still having issues. If you get a crash.dmp, don’t forget to upload it along the stonehearth.log (I bumped your user level so you should be able to upload files now).

Here are my user_setting.json files and stonehearth.json. I have copied over other user_setting.json files (coping in my user ID) and didn’t have any luck with it. Also went through all the steps @Relyss recommended.

As @stonemonkey recommended, I tried verifying the integrity of the game files and that didn’t help either. The only Anti-Virus this computer has is the windows defender security center.

thanks for the help so far.

user_settings.txt (57 Bytes)
stonehearth.txt (876 Bytes)

The stonehearth.json shouldn’t matter, but the stonehearth.log does. Could you upload the latest stonehearth.log that you have?
Although by the look of those user_settings, doesn’t seem that the game gets very far anyway…

Have you tried running it as administrator or just double-clicking the .exe in the folder rather than through Steam?

My apologies I meant to upload the stonehearth.log too.

I just tried running it as administrator again. The one in the stone
hearth folder and the x64 one but no luck.

stonehearth.log (2.8 KB)

Q: do you have Discord running?

if yes close it and run Stonehearth

@SilverSchiller did you update your AMD drivers from here? : Download Drivers

Also, did you check the list in https://discourse.stonehearth.net/t/crashing-on-start-read-this-updated-october-18-2016/13297/3 and verified that none of those programs is running in the background?

It’s really weird that you can’t run the game after attempting all those steps. Which CPU and how much RAM do you have?
