[Res] [develop-2594] Crafter issues

The new crafting window and stuff is great. But there are some flaws with the crafter AI itself.

1/ Carpenter loves building so much, she won’t stop building to do any crafting. She’ll make a run to grab wood to do more building instead of grabbing wood to craft. Which is a nuisance when you’d rather she be crafting doors, windows and furniture and such.

2/ Carpenter didn’t bother to install her own workbench. So I had to wait for a worker to take a moment to deign to place the Carpenter Workbench she’d crafted. Possibly related to #1 since she was “busy” building a wall across the valley I put my town in along with everyone else. Nobody was free for some time :frowning: Seems like the priority for placing workshops is lower than or at best the same as building.

Edit: Hmm. Something else is going on maybe… My carpenter managed to build exactly 3 wooden chairs before starting to help on the dining hall. After the dining hall is finished, she won’t do anything now. Here she is lazing around the campfire while there is valid work to be done. Note the wood in a stockpile at the bottom of the screen.

It seems like demoting and repromoting her fixed the bug that was preventing her from crafting. I still have no idea what caused it to happen between crafting one item and another though…

Thanks for the feedback! The AI stuff is fallout from the fact that workbenches are now just placeable items, and placement is competing with and losing to building (even though building is theoretically higher priority, the pathfinder is really fast now so…) We’ll see what we can do about it.

The carpenter getting stuck is good to know! If it happens again:

  • does adding a new item to the queue or pausing/unpausing the workshop get her going again?
  • if you have a save where it’s happening, please send it over.

We’ve definitely fixed some save/load bugs where the crafter gets into bad states, but I’m sure there are more bugs lurking.

Also, The carpenter’s Toolbench shows the UI for the Carpenter’s workbench (it is exactly the same).

In the screenshot above, I had actually dumped the entire queue and re-entered the 7 chairs. It didn’t help.

I meant to make a save, but it looks like I forgot. I was too busy trying to figure out what was wrong >.>

This is intended, it’s the same UI as the carpenter crafting UI and the main UI. It’s just available from the workbenches as a convenience

Ok, I’ve seen it once too. Unfortunately (or fortunately) save/load fixes the stall. :frowning:

One thing I noticed with the mason is whenever you order them to craft a Blacksmith’s hammer directly from the crafting menu (found on the bottom toolbar) he will collect the ingredients but not actually craft the hammer. What’s strange is it was only the Blacksmith’s hammer; other items worked fine. I got it to work by queuing it up directly on the Mason’s basic bench.

I can confirm this. It happened to my carpenter and blacksmith. Somehow they forgot they were no longer workers and basically became one to start building. Then never went back to the items in queue. I momentarily fixed by demoting and promoting again. The issue comes back next time I build a building.

@sdee is there a way of separating items/sorting them based on workbench needed, having them have different colored frames, or only unlocking them if you have the right workbench placed? I’m noticing it kind of confusing when just browsing though the ui screens.
