Summary:
Didn’t see a bug report about this anywhere else on here, so here it is: it seems that if a goblin camp spawns on top of a mountain, it doesn’t remove any terrain, but it still spawns in a pile of dirt. Furthermore, activating said pile of dirt in an attempt to get rid of it (and, admittedly, just to see what would happen) causes a lua runtime error message to pop up.
Steps to reproduce:
Have goblin camp spawn on top of mountain (could be any rock, haven’t tested)
Click on pile of dirt and hit button to activate it
Error: does not compute
Expected Results:
Honestly, no idea what I expected, except maybe fpr the pile of dirt to not spawn.
Actual Results:
A nice little error window.
Notes:
Like I said, I haven’t really tested this to see if it happens on any rock or just mountains. I’d assume any rock would cause it.

Oh man, after reading your introduction, I just thought for a moment that you had found a way to create farmland on rocks. Then you wrote something about a lua error. What a pity…
I know right, although I guess it’s better than having the whole thing get placed and ending up with a camp-sized graphical glitch of dirt and stone occupying the same space!
You are probably right.
I still hope for the possibility to place farm plots on stone one day. But requiring a level 6 farmer to actually grow something there (and maybe irrigation). I am daydreaming again…
They are not invisible, they are just not made. (and this includes common biomes too)
The scars only appear if the camp is created on dirt (or grass or sand), but not on rocks. Those two biomes are mostly mountains, so it is rare to see a camp creating a scar because they have more chances to spawn in a mountain.
But, in the Archipelago, the camp was purposely changed to not create scars even if it is on dirt. (It was part of a group of changes required to make them work on that biome).
The reason it still spawns a dirt pile even if it will never create a scar is just because it is old code, from before pile dirt were added into the game. Thanks for the reminder, for the new version camps in there will not spawn dirt piles.
