I was thinking it might be a nice feature if the Hearthlings could construct a wagon (using crates and other materials) used to leave the map. Perhaps, just to keep things fair, you could only bring a certain number of Hearthlings with you. 7, like in a fresh start, or maybe a few more. You’d get to pick which ones from your current settlement are allowed to go, fill the available inventory space with all the goods you think you might need (using the Trade UI), and send your travelers on their way to a new map.
This would save your old game (after removing the wagon and occupants), and initiate a new map generation cycle. Things would go pretty vanilla from there, choosing where to settle, planting your flag, and getting a new fire pit, right next to which would be the crates from the wagon, with all the stuff you brought, and your team of pilgrims.
Maybe the wagon would require some mineral or something that prevents it from being built too early, or maybe not. I don’t expect it would actually have to be mobile or anything.
I imagine the UI for the wagon would involve a main window with the “Embark” button (grayed out until certain requirements are met), as well as a pilgrim assignment window largely taken from the Party UI, and then of course the Trade UI for choosing loot to bring with you.

This is a very unique idea, and it*s a good one. Your senpai is proud.
What if you needed to get the fire pit and banner to make the wagon (maybe you would need something magical to craft the banner)? that way, there is no fire pit and banner that appear out of nowhere. also, this would make it so you need to be farther in the game to depart, because you would need the banner and fire pit.

I’ve actually been thinking about this since I read it. The flag and firepit were weighing on my mind as being integral in starting a fresh town. I put some thought into the issue but approached from a different angle, multiple crafters make the items.
Camp banner: Pole crafted by carpenter (2 wood, cross piece and main pole), banner crafted by weaver (1 thread, 1 cloth). Once both parts are in storage, the carpenter then combines them into the camp banner.
Fire pit is crafted by the mason using 2 stone, 1 wood (alternate: maybe a use for the bricks the mason can make that are just storage fillers right now?)
I definitely like the idea of a combined crafting effort. So here’s how I think I see it happening. Carpenter crafts the main body of the wagon from several wood. Blacksmith crafts the wheels and axles from steel. Mason crafts the fire pit kit from several stone (or stone bricks). Weaver crafts the packed flag from one bolt of cloth and one spool of thread. Cook prepares a “Food Supply” for the road, from various elements on their menu.
Note: The “fire pit kit” and the “packed flag” are separate entities from the fire pit and the flag, in order to keep them from simply being used in your same town. While multiple fire pits wouldn’t case issues, I could see how multiple flags would.
