I finally got some time to read through all of this and make some changes based on what everyone suggested. Keep in mind that there are only so many resources we can dedicate to this, as it isn’t a planned feature, but just something I made out of frustration with the existing tools. The end goal is not to provide the ultimate mining tool, but to have one that’s strictly more powerful and flexible than what we had, without harming the existing experience, so the changes are mostly to address the latter.
Here are the changes to the mining tool going into the next release:
- The old 4x4 aligned tool is back, and living happily next to the new power mining tool. It behaves and looks exactly like the old one, except it also allows subtraction now. The new tool also defaults to 1x1, but still remembers whatever size you chose once you resize it.
- You can once again build ladders against mining zones.
- When Ctrl is held, the mining cursor will allow you to start selecting on an existing mining region.
- There’s an option in the settings menu to default mining zones to suspended (controlled by each client separately).
