NEW BUILDER VERY UNSTABLE BRANCH O.o

i think it’s a bit strange atm when for example you remove part of a floor and want to add that back you have to use the block tool but that one does not have the textures and there is no floor tool. guessing it’s coming eventually also :)?

Also, out of sheer curiosity: why dont hearthlings like building one level into the floor anymore?
i presume its a technicly standpoint thing but…i couldnt imagine why.

This is not implemented in the new builder yet.
I believe it’s in progress though. Shouldn’t take much work to integrate it.

We still have to finish some other things to bring the new builder to parity with the old builder (e.g. road tool).

I’ll presume this means “we started from scratch on the new builder and thus it’s a case of not ctrl-c/v Ing that over from the old one, but someone has to take time and actually tell the game it has to be one floor down”?

No, in fact there are some things that can be reused from the old builder for this task (with in progress I meant already started / some progress has been made already).

We just have to make sure it doesn’t break other things, etc.

I’m just saying that, even if it’s easier to fix the bugs on the new builder, there are many issues you’ve pointed out that still need to be polished. Hopefully it won’t take too long before we’re able to push the builder to unstable.

Thanks for all of your feedback!

I’m still not sure what i think of the block tool it’s kinda nice but it kinda frustrates me at times as well.

For example if i wanna drag a roof or a bridge i have to drag above a block else it will go the other way against the wall instead of between these two points forming a straight bridge or a line of a roof.

Would it be possible to change so game understands this if you try to drag a roof because it goes the other way or could we perhaps get something like Shift+Drag does the opposite than what the normal block tool would do for when we want this?

I agree! But the new builder have the drag function with the arrowtool.

Indeed i try to use it more and more but it feels slower. Maybe it’s just an adjustment period

Maybe you need a little whatyamacallit that you normally use when pulling stuff around, but for drawing the voxels where the plane matters. As in, you click to draw the voxels, and a whatyamacallit appears to show you the plane in which you’re dragging. I also agree with Shift+Drag idea from @Banto . I know it’s redundant, but since players are going to be experimenting in cases when they want the other thing to happen, you might as well put in extra options in places where people might be looking for them.

If you combine the two, you can easily see what shift+drag does as well, since you’ll see the whatyamacallit turn around as you press and unpress shift.

whatyamacallit… I think most of us is so used to the old builder, that this change feels strange, i know i felt the same way as banto at first. Actually the new dragtool combined with the paintbrush makes a really powerful combo imo. the rest of the builder…minus the holetool, at least if it get fixed to redo walls as walls,… is kinda frustrating… But then again, i dont like squares…

Isn’t that quite an issue in a voxel-based game?

Okay it happened again. My spot was completely walled off by a 2 block high blue stone wall on the outside. An actual building with a wall on each side blocking access and a pack of Varanus just popped inside my walls. :forlorn: The varanus stayed in their corner so I wasn’t gonna bother em and all of the sudden an Ogre and some kobold wolves come barreling out of my walls!! They didn’t even break the doors just let themselves right in lol.

Send help!

Edit: Oh…I guess the kobold wolves and ogre were the help. They widdled em down enough for me to finish em off. Thanks for the speedy save. Jimmy John’s ain’t got nothin’ on y’all.

Hmm, it may not currently be working. I’ll take a look when I’m doing with the road tool. Thanks for letting us know!

Oh I had that too I was wondering what happened.

Okay, I got a bit caught up in my current mod work and only just got back to trying out the new unstable builder. And was surprised to notice this:

Forgive me if this was mentioned/explained somewhere previously and I overlooked it in my quick search, but… am I supposed to only have five hearthlings when embarking, or has something gone wrong somewhere?
I don’t have any mods turned on at the moment…

Yup if ya caught @max99x recent thread The Chronicles of Emerald Overlook , he starts off with only 5 hearthlings in both of his towns. Caught me by surprise too, but I’ve found I like it. Moving the starting line like that has made it a little more of a journey.

Ah, I did read through it, but must have missed that detail.
Okay, good, now that I know that’s how it is supposed to function, and not that I somehow buggered things up by means of cat chaos magic or something, I shall actually give it a try. Thanks, @Logo!
