I honestly preferred the old style for selecting a saved template.
The new one feels a little more cramped and it does not split the templates in multiple tiers (camp, town) and categories (custom, ascendancy). It also does not offer a preview of used items, although this is not something that I personally care.
I also remember that having ladders in a template was something that would maybe be implemented. Maybe it got confused with stairs. What I mean is the placeable ladders (hotkey: L) that are vertical.
