This happens when youâre designing a blueprint and move an object outside of that blueprint. The game, for whatever reason, translates it to you saying you want an object placed there as if it were in inventory. The only way to get rid of it when this happens is to create one of whatever object it is, let the Hearthlings place it, and then tell them to remove it.
It can also do that when youâre trying to move something, say a bed, into a house you built, but it doesnt. How the system works is it registers you as telling it you want a bed there. What Astrix said, is you do that, or if you already have one and donât want to make another, just click the button with the red arrow, not the green (canât remember what it says. rip). If itâs something thatâs in a crafting queue you can do the same thing, but you would want to cancel the item in the crafting or it will make a new one and sit in your stockpiles/inventory
while using the carpenter house blueprint to create other jobâs build if you move away the furniture from the build boundaries and start the construction the overlay for said furniture will remain on the map forever
Steps to reproduce:
select carpenter house from templates
move away from the structure the carpenter workbench and carpenter toolbench
place other furniture in place, cooking pot, oven etc
complete the build
5 . try to remove the moved workbench and toolbench
Expected Results:
node of the original furniture items will be able to be removed from the map
Actual Results:
you should be able to erase any overlayed item from the design building menu

This is a bug thatâs been around for a while, thatâs been reported a few times. Iâm going to say go read that thread rather than reposting all the info here.
Summary:
A cosmetic bug (or intentional?). Whenever you move an object/furniture outside the custom buildingâs foundation floor, it becomes a âseparate entityâ as if it was placed normally like an ordinary object. This occurred while I was building my own personal solo Carpenterâs Workshop, where I click-dragged the log pile outside the floor.
Ghosted object becomes a separate object entity when dragged outside a custom building draft
Steps to reproduce:
Place a floor to create a custom building draft
Place an object.
Click-drag the object outside the buildingâs foundation floor.
Click on the entity outside the foundation floor.
Expected Results:
The entity dragged and placed outside the floor is separated from the drafted building.
Actual Results:
The entity is now a separate ghost object, but now you canât remove it â except through the âdestroyâ console command.
Notes:
Not sure if workers would get to the separated entity and place it. But I rather not make the game any worse and left it paused there. Used console to âdestroyâ it.
Attachments: It would be difficult to explain it through screenshots.

It kind of sounds like my problem with the stair tool when I want to use it to make a stair to my door going into the house. My stair is three voxels across and one voxel high. This happens half the time with the stair tool. I end up using the undo button that only works half the time. It is good that Building is being revamped from the ground up.
I know what you are talking about. I actually use that effect to get rid of unwanted objects in my new designs when the undo button does not work The problem seems to be that you can not place them back in the building if you were just moving furniture around.
