Minimum Specs...Can I Play the Game?

This should probably be merged as this will be definitively answered on beta release via official Radiant announcement and is very similar to the below:

and is technically newer

Also below could probably be merged too

If I get annoying please pm me and I’ll stop. I’m just bored and think I’m helping.

What kind of computer would you need to handle such and awesome game?
Could say a laptop run it? Or would you need a really good computer to run the game?

absolutely… you can take a look in the first graphics test thread, to see a wide range of machines that have run the test… if you have a laptop in mind, feel free to list the specs here…

Laptops are running it fine so far!

Well, I don’t think people with XP can run it, I’m not part of the Dev team but it seems like trying to get it to run on XP machines might be a bit of a time sink? Someone pointed out that Microsoft has stopped providing support for XP so might be time to just move on? But that’s another discussion …

Anyway, yes, graphics test is mostly running fine on laptops, obviously the older your system and the lower your specs the more chance you will have of encountering issues, but Radiant have expressed a desire to get the game running on as many machines as possible.

Microsoft announced that there will be no support anymore for Windows XP starting April, 8th 2014. I would also agree that this might be a time sink, but… in different statistics you can see that still around 30% of desktops seem to run it :disappointed:.

Might be additional time, but might also impact a lot of potential players. I guess Radiant will have here some more data (maybe covering visitors of Stonehearth.net and the forum) to make an informed decision on where to focus first.

Really? Wow, it would be interesting to see how many of those machines were used for everyday purposes compared with those that are maintained due to specific software needs and aren’t used for anything else.

Perhaps a mass questionnaire “Which operating system do you use?” (Obviously a bit more thought than that as people might be like “Well I use windows 7 and linux” “I have two machines” etc.) But you get the idea.

I mean, it is a 12 year old OS…

that has got to be in a corporate setting… it just has to be… legacy machines that are simply more cost effective to remain as they are, etc.

i would hazard a guess that the overwhelming majority of PC gamers have moved on from the OS… still, would be interesting to dig up some more numbers…

Well… 30% might be on the upper end of all the statistics, but you can take a look at some data at wikipedia:

Some known websites report that around 10% of their visitors are still running XP. I guess somewhere in between is the truth. However, 10% might be also the amount of Linux or Mac OS users.

well spank m color me surprised… on a related note, it looks like there is a rather large portion of the Starbound community that are still running XP, and (it would seem) not a single one of them has been able to launch the game…

Well, I think that the statistics are somewhere in that range. Windows is over 75% of all OSes used (reportedly), and it may be even more than that. I think that Win8 was around the same range as OSX users a few months ago, and that likely grew, too, so I’d estimate that the ratio is something like this:

Windows Pre-7:10-20%
Windows 7: 50-60%
Windows 8: 20-30%
OSX (Mac): 15%
Linux: 5-10%

If I’m not mistake, those are fairly close to the proportions, and using a little statistics, we can deduce that the ratio is probably (very) roughly the same for the forum. Although, the higher percentage of computer-ers probably means that Linux is closer to about 15-20% range. (Most of those are likely dual-booted)

so does anyone have any sort of idea on what the specs are for this game?

Probably your best answer is here I’m afraid:

Basically… the specs are in flux ATM, given how early in development it is ATM.

ah okay thanks for the help.

I have a semi decent computer and StoneHearth wll not open :expressionless:

It might be easier if you give us your computer specs first and we can let you know if there are any obvious things that stick out.

Windows XP for an example, has issues with Stonehearth.

OS: Windows 8.1
Genuine Intel® CPU U4100 @ 1.30GHz
4GB RAM
Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family

I can run Minecraft fine so i don’t know if StoneHearth requires more or if its just bugged

Ok then. It COULD be an issue with 8.1, as we’ve seen that before. But explain your situation a little more. You install stonehearthig… run it… annnddd?

first of all, welcome aboard!

i dunno… this seems a bit “light”, no? onboard graphics and 4GB of ram? well, perhaps not so much the ram, but certainly the GPU could be part of the problem?

I’m guessing it’s the CPU actually. 1.3GHz is pretty poor these days. Look at the results here:

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+U4100+%40+1.30GHz

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/midlow_range_cpus.html

What else… RAM is a little low, and of course you didn’t mention any GPU so it’s possible that’s an issue as well.

Nothing happens : I’ve tried steam and the direct downloads. I’ve deleted and installed multiple times and to no avail ):
