Map Game Deluxe: Discussion Thread

Also as I read more and more about golems, Apparently I will have a terracotta army as well!

On my record you’re put down as knowing golems out of animation magic. You can effectively grant movement and automation to anything, make corpses move to make them think you’ve learnt necromancy? make puppet golems to try and creepy people out? things like moving walls or living mazes are in that category. You just only know how to make golems for now.

Okay, First order of business! Study Agatean and Umnian so I can have a massive golem army

If you want an army of 4000 golden golems you’re probably going to need a lot of gold. As it’s the animation of humanoid clay golems for you to start with researching gold golem will be fairly trivial in comparison to getting all that gold. Maybe setting up trades with others? Considering that looking at my map most your island down in the bottom left is fairly low in gold supplies, it’s amusing really. While the middle island has lower densities of most resources than the outer ones it has much higher densities of the really rare stuff like mithril and diamonds. Of course if you went to another side you might find much better amounts of ores, maybe even trying to find the secrets to planar travel to get to a plane of gold? Of course you could just improve science, you mining yields are limited in what you can extract from the earth.

@Elderon
You get the brand new living house tech for the singing trees thing (able to grow hollow trees for use as houses), say if you want it to work differently. The magic is fine as well, you get basic healing magic, this expresses itself as an ability to boost healing speed, a branch of bio-manipulation. It covers improving the body as well as just healing it, curing aging and making super elves are within your potential scope. Maybe even things like adding wings if you try for it?

I was more going for being able to sing fully grown trees into houses, walls and larger buildings. not hollow tree huts, if that gos as magich i will change my tec to medicin and pick that as my magic.

Edit: i dont meen singing them into a city in one night, it can take as long as building normal houses, i just whant them to be made out of living trees.

That works. I’ll go with that than, so you get the ability to reshape trees with magic and basic medical knowledge. Also forgot last time but was this right for location?

It looks fliping perfect!

Can i develope that into healing and bio manipulation? or maybe develope biomanipulation and then try to combine my medicin and bio-manipulation into heling? The posibileties are endles!

Also, if there is some god/godes or greater guardian of the forest that i know of, i would like to worship it.

I gave it to you as plant element magic, so unfortunately no super soldiers for you. Though plant control could be a brilliant source of poisons and medicines and there’s nothing to stop you from making reactionary plants (think super venus fly trap, just react to stimuli but not particularly smart), you’d need to get animation, summoning, death, or something else similar though if you wanted to make them sapient. But steal some animation knowledge and combine it with plant elements and you’d be pretty close to making ents.

Gods are beings of belief, make up your own. Alternatively you can worship elementals, fae, demons, angels, undead, or voidwalkers as the lore puts them on equal power to gods as technically gods are just another race here. I played around with typical roles as well, for example demons specialize in destruction magic but that includes a large amount of healing with things like destruction of disease and injuries. Go look at the google doc, it contains some info, albeit it’s currently rather poorly formatted.

I supose that will have to do, but i can develope healing later on right? even if its dangerus.

Of course. No magic is blocked off to anyone, it’s just that the further it away from what you know the harder is learn. So for you other uses of plant elemental magic than reshaping plants would be easiest, followed by other elements, followed by pretty much everything else, the safe way would be to start with animals and work your way up, good medical knowledge would help a lot with learning healing. However there is random ruins on the maps that can contain magics knowledge and the other sides of the cuboid have a lot of good stuff on them. Plus you trade magical knowledge, just find someone else who knows something similar.

So magic don’t follow the scientific norms where trees and sapiens are rather close to one another?

Sounds good.

Remember you mentioned Ruins? Once I find some Umnian Ruins I can get the Golem Trust to find all the golems left behind after the Umnians disappeared, That includes the 4000 Giant Gold Golems.

Actually Elves are Immortal, They don’t have many children however so basically your population will not decrease due to deaths (Unless they were killed by something that isn’t aging like a stab wound, plague or an “accident” arranged by the local Mafia which may be run by a Troll by the name of Chrysoprase)

No, What you want to do is have singing to trees not make them houses but makes them Ents (Living Trees/Wood Golems)(This is how the Ents came into being in the Lord Of The Rings). This means you can put together an army more easily (Fire will devastate you though) and due to your population never increasing by much this would become extremely important.

You try and you will be answering to Lord Vetinaris Dark Clerks and if you are caught alive you will be getting the Kitten Treatment

Trees and sapients are closely related, it’s just that you have a distinctly plant magic, going in via flesh and blood elements could be a good path though. You’d start with manipulating them basically and use that to jump to bio-manipulation transformation magic. If you can find a decent connection for science or magic you can use it.

Also as per the point @Newf raised, I’m giving you long lived but by no means immortal elves. You get about 80 year lifespans right now (humans will be averaging around 30 given the tech level) which can be improved with medical knowledge and better living conditions and the like. You age twice as slow basically but your medical knowledge and tree houses give you some advantages that push it a bit more. To balance population growth you fertility and pregnancy are tweaked so that your generation length is only a bit lower than humans. So higher population due to lifespans but slightly slower growth, the slower aging counteracts the population though by giving you a higher proportion of children effectively. Mostly irrelevant other than you’ll have to work for your 600 year old elves. Try 150-200 as a reasonable goal with good medicine, plumbing, and the like.

@Newf, The only major groups on this side of the map are the players, so until you cross an edge someone is going to need to provide the resources for those golems. That gold won’t just appear (probably anyway, technically metal elementals could make it just appear), and farming gold elementals for the gold might make you some enemies.

Those ents are perfectly possible to appear, he’ll just need something more than pure plant magic to create a magical species though. Like your animation magic. They won’t burn that easily either, not only are living trees much harder to burn this is magically enhanced trees, you’re going to need magic (fire’s the obvious choice, others can work though), science (oil, napalm, etc.), or a lot of fire to put them down. Bladed weapons could be effective, wood splits down the grain fairly easily in comparison after all.

We are talking about Ankh-Morpork, No amount of medical care will increase lifespan.

@Gridnick, I can’t think of a tech that really relates to a sailing academy. Maybe a type of ship or navigation or something instead? Also I went for magic tattoo’s for you, they’re transformation magic though so they can be researched to things like strength and boosted regeneration and stuff. Also provides a gateway to healing magic.

@naturalnuke. You need a race, otherwise I’m just going to treat you as humans. For magic I’m sticking you with the first one you put down, the total desert one is too broad. You get the ability to move, shape and harden sand. It will be useful given it’s what you’ll probably be building your houses out of.

@ManOfRet. Unfortunately your knowledge of black powder is insufficient for blast mining. It would basically just be literally throw explosives at rock and hope you don’t die, try something else. For magic I gave you the ability to channel divine power via meditation boosting your mental power, the meditation is mainly to stop you from starting with four armed super smart people that roll everything by limiting it so they at least can’t do much while boosted. However divine magic is potent stuff and if you could figure how to allow yourself to move it could be quite fearsome. The four arms is fine, reach limits and multi-tasking ability limit fairly well by themselves.

@Newf. That may be true, however remember that your river is still mostly water at this point, you’ll need some more food supply before you get enough people to really do it. You only start with about 190k people. Your biggest city might not even reach 10000 people at this point.

changed it @Xavion to lake ships

Your forgetting that since Ankh-Morpork is a City-State, it only has one city. I am going to put “NPC” cities in the various places around the Island so they correspond geographically with the Discworld.

So its still full of Hippos, I am not sure whether that is better or worse…

Does that include:

Zombies
Trolls
Dwarfs
Goblins (Recently became citizens in the books Snuff and Raising Steam)
Golems
Gnomes (Became citizens in Raising Steam…Sorta)
Werewolves
Vampires (Black Ribboners of course)
Undead
Librarians
Orcs (Became citizens in Unseen Academicals)
Nac Mac Feegle
Igors

Etc. (Because there are so many races that I am probably forgetting some)

your missing Yaktaurs

Alright I’m fine with that. But my race is like a… grey skinned… things. Not really a specific race but more like deformed Lagomorphs mixed with Elves. @Xavion
