Is Shelter Score a Placeholder?

Silly crabcakes, too caught up in liking and helping people to even welcome them.

I’m still pretty new, and typing on my phone is difficult enough. If I were on my computer I’d probably say hi or welcome or HEY YEAH YEAH YEAH-AH to new peeps.

Just tossing in my two cents - it does seem as though shelter isn’t a placeholder, per se, but it is also limited to 5, no matter what I do.

It’s probably capped at five cause you can just spam ib to get a super high score right away.

There’s been a vague cap on the Shelter score up to this point. It will likely be updated when buildings, beds, and decorations are looked into in depth again (likely in a few more releases). Until then, expect the score to stick around 5 without going too much higher.

Welcome to the discourse, @compguy! Shelter has many ways to improve. Building structures, beds, and even furniture help this score go up. Your game might be bugged, but try mass-producing comfy chairs.

5 is about the cap (possibly 5.1 according to some posts i’ve read) but here is the thing i’ve noticed… say you have 10 hearthlings and 10 beds… they all sleep that night in beds, your score is 5… however if a hearthling ventures out a bit far and becomes exhausted and then falls asleep where they stand, the next day your journal will show a lower shelter score

this would be due to them not being able to sleep in a bed, they will have “complained”, about not having a bed, in the town journal, thus lessening the shelter score. the same thing happens when someone complains about food, the food score drops.

yep
was just explaining that to the OP in layman’s terms
