(Idea) Construction White-listing

While I’m not a modder, I thought I might throw an idea out there that someone could chew on if they’d like.
Its a somewhat manage-based mod, and I know that Stonehearth’s glory comes from its simplicity. However. The idea I was bouncing around my head while I was playing came up as I watched my workers bustle about. I only have one building being built at a time due to a simple fact that my hearthlings tend to get confused and don’t know what to work on and never really seem to get anywhere if I have multiple scheduled.

Now this could be a problem with my computer, its lesser power compared to others, and the likes, as I know hearthlings go idle or do simple things when there is too much to process. Which is why I’m bringing it up here (to see if those with better computers encounter the same problem. Countless workers, but don’t seem to go anywhere if you have multiple buildings to build.)

If it turns out that, on higher computers, this is a non-issue. Let me know and ignore the following:

However, if one could ‘assign’ certain workers to certain build sites, I could have my comfortable number of four workers on multiple sites, allowing me to easily have multiple going without my hearthlings becoming overwhelmed with all that they have to do.

So, for example, I have 24 workers. In most cases, I find that 4 hearthlings is a comfortable number for me when creating small buildings like houses and such, as any more seems to hinder progress more than helps. However, for larger buildings, I will put more and the progress seems to speed up fine, unlike smaller builds. So I’m building barracks to house my soldiers, which is a large build, so I’ll assign 8 of my workers to it. The other workers won’t work on it, they will do other worker stuff. However, I also have two houses that need to be built as two new crafters have joined the fray and need to be moved out of the worker bunkhouse. (I put workers in a large building with multiple beds and build full houses for those with other jobs. Farmers share a house along with soldiers. But crafters of any sort all get their own house regardless if I have multiple of the same. It creates a nice hierarchy, I think.) So I’ll put 4 workers on one house and 4 on the other. This leaves16 workers to mine or do other things, but you can also set workers to not build, so that’s whatever.

Anyways. What are your thoughts? Do you think this is necessary? If so, what other tweak do you think should be made to make such a modification better? Of course, we don’t want to get too micro-managey, but hey. Input is nice.

I have been thinking about getting into modding, and I’ve done programming before (though I dunno if that will help me in this area, I hope so.) but I don’t know how difficult of a concept this would be to work on as my ‘first mod’ as it takes a lot of game functionality into account. So any thoughts or tips on that are nice as well.

It’s an intriguing idea. Reminds me of a thought I had a while ago where you could have a stockpile for furniture and building materials be placed near a building and one of the early steps a hearthling might take in building is putting the requisite materials in that stockpile. No idea if that is even remotely feasible or not though :T
