Food decays on shelves, is this intended?

Food continues to decay when it’s on shelves. I suppose they’re not really considered containers so much as vertical stockpiles. Still it makes me sad to have rotting food and flies buzzing in my lovely new pantry.

Rotten food to Compost

Simple idea, add a compost bin where rotten food is stored that will eventually turn into compost after a few days. In order for the compost to have an effect it the soil must be dug again and the compost mixed in. The effect will boost the growth of the plants for a set number of days before compost must be applied to the soil again.
