Hello! It seems the release of A20 may be the culprit seeing as I was able to launch and play the game just last week or so. Any ideas/suggestions for what to do?
Here’s a screenshot of what appears when I currently try to launch the game from Steam:
if you are using mods, I don’t think the game will load a save without them in the correct folder, but this is a launching problem so that is probably not it, but make sure if you have mods you put them in the correct place and they are up to date
in steam right click stonehearth and left click properties go to tab local files and left click browse local files if you are using the x64 version then go to that folder and left click Stonehearth.exe to select it then right click it to open the context menu and left click properties, go to the compatiibility tab and check the box Run this program as an administrator and click ok. then try playing again
I would also run steam as admin as well, just to be safe. other issues might include your computer time being out of sync with steam and a thousand other things.
Steam has given an incredibly specific error ! If @genboom’s suggestion doesn’t work, please upload or paste your stonehearth.log for review. It’s in the same folder that will open when you browse local files above.
Does updating to a new version of the game erase the previous ‘.log’ file? If that is the case, that may be why I don’t seem to have such a file under the ‘x64’ file at the moment. From there, if the answer is yes, does my current inability to launch the game prevent me from creating a new ‘.log’ file?
I suppose the problem might be that I keep my Steam folder on my desktop for easy access. Does that sound like it may be an issue?
if you just reinstalled and you can’t launch the game then there wouldn’t be a log file if you deleted the old folder
putting any large files directly on your desktop is usually not the best idea because it has to be loaded with the desktop, including thumbnail icons etc. it will increase your load times and idle cpu usage becaues those images are loaded into your RAM
again make sure you were in the \Steam\steamapps\common\Stonehearth directory not in the x64 folder
Updating the game should not erase the file. As @genboom said, the file is not in the x64 folder, it should be in the “root” game directory. From your screenshot, that would be: PC > Desktop > Steam > steamapps > common > Stonehearth
when you reinstalled your game did you use steam to make sure steam knows the folder you reinstalled the game to? if you just moved the folders it will not launch. you have to choose the installation directory through steam
