Funny video . But I can only see the benefit if there is theft or murdering in the game. Which I dont know if they are in the game.
I think the Pirate, Ninjas and Politicians might be a reason for locked doors but Iād honestly assume theyād be denied access anyway. If there is murder and theft then yes, but we havenāt heard much on that yet. But think about it; how many doors do you have in your house? I have about 10. How many beds? 3. Thatās 3x the amount of doors to assign. And Iām not sure if doors would even just auto-assign themselves. Or if they did if it would even work very well. After all, your town hall would have at least one door and would auto-assign somebody to it. Iād want it open to the public so Iād have to unassign it. More work than beds because there wouldnāt even be a bed there.
I think I brought up a legitimate point. You are assuming doors have locks. We donāt know that basic doors will even have locks. Locked doors might be an upgrade or require greater skills than we are going to see in the first versions of the game.
You plan fails if basic doors do not lock.
I agree with your ideas though for certain doors. The town gate should not open unless you, the player, say so. I donāt want it to open just because some infantry thinks he can take on the orks himself, or some townsfolk needs to walk out to a well, and lets in the orks.
the devs can script doors to lock mate, the game isnāt out yet so most of the stuff on the forums is just hypothethical. I believe this thread served the purpose of changing the way bed/doors work in the future game.
Yes, of course, the devs can script/code that. Thatās not my point. My point is assuming that the initial doors in the game will lock. Of course that can be modded in, assuming that the modding tools are that powerful. I would definitely like to see certain doors lockable but I think they need to be player lockable not RTS unit lockable.
Considering the medieval time period of the game - most doors did not lock then (via key). It was not until much later in history to have key lock doors. Doors locked from the inside only (you had to be inside to lock or unlock it).
What Iām saying isnāt even so much a beds should not be assigned or even that locking doors would as of now be vastly more functional.
What I am saying is that with the bed mechanic we are limited to exactly 1 gameplay feature. Sleeping.
With doors you could as of now accomplish the same task in a slightly different way. The difference is, as this game grows, and new features are added, and lockable doors become a more realistic possibility, we will be stuck in a situation with Doors and Bed. And I think that is way more micromanaging.
To clarify all doors should be spawned in the unlocked position.
Also Read @Ramcat last post to see how doors could very much be useful. Ai in games is evil and has a habit of causing stupid mistakes doors would be a very simple way of assuring Ai stays out of trouble. Now ask yourself can beds do this?
I personally believe Doors will at some point become lockable regardless of what āweā think. This is a RTS/RPG/SIM and all 3 of those genres of games have lockable doors heavily prevalent in them. All I propose is getting a jump on this now and killing 2 birds with one stone.
We keep talking about mods and stuff. Well can you imagine the cool game types modders could come up with if we had doors? ācapture the keyā āsteal the goldā. Hell even Dungeons could have locked doors. and you could assign a key to a chest instead of a person.
i dont have a problem with locked doors, as long as they make sense (as with any other mechanic)⦠we know there is a day/night cycle, and that units must sleep⦠therefore, beds make sense as a current mechanicā¦
will there be scenarios where locked doors make sense? im sure there will, but at this point either the devs havent considered one, or havent shared any specific details where they would be relevantā¦
weāre still a good 4 months out from beta, so anything and everything can change between now and then though!
I would not want to assign a bedā¦or a door. That seems overmuch. Why not create a āpreferenceā system. If I put the carpenter workshop in house A, then that citizen would āpreferā to sleep as close as possible to their workshopā¦in ātheirā house, etc.
As far as ādecoratingā an interior you could always drop off the goods at the āhouseā (fedex) and the owner (carpenter) would decorate their own house (could spend the last hour before sleep performing that work).
