Perhaps in stonehearth we could start in different ages, or even create these ages? Let me give an example. You could start in the age of hardship, a period of time coming before when stone hearth takes place, where disease is much more common place and food is much less. Or, you could start early than that, in the age of war, where political relationships were at their lowest and war was a very common place thing. These would not actually do too much but change up the difficulty and playstyle. But now, let’s go into the future. The age of exploration, where exploring is much more often than settling. Or, the age of innovation, where steampunk and machinery themes are very evident. Or you could even start and end these ages! For example, let’s say you start a town in the age of hardship. You set up a colony in the new world in order to escape the disease, and eventually have a strong enough medical force to discover a miracle cure for the disease! Then you move on to the age of settlement (the age normal stonehearth supposedly takes place in) where you send groups of 7 out into the world to build up more of your empire. Then, onto the age of exploration. You start sending archeologist and geology teams out of those smaller settlements to discover relics of the ages to open new planes of existence, encouraging more exploration. Then you move onto the age of innovation, where, now that you have a plentiful amount of inventors and engineers, you can start inventing the steam-punk and magic based machines of the future!

Maybe if you play in with the Rabbit people, you’ll have a choice of playing long before humans. With different types of trees and plants and such…except carrots.
well @sdee has worked very hard on making a rather extensive amount of background lore, so us “creating” ages wouldnt make any sense. i guess what im trying to say is that, we shouldnt have “ages” of stonehearth, as stonehearth itself is part of an “age”.
Yes. Although I get what you meant about not tampering with the past, I think what I meant by “creating” an age is when you get further into the game, your actions could define the fate of your villagers and the world around you. For example, you could help advance machinery into the future, but then, next thing you know it, many other cities and races are using that machinery, re-defining how you react with the world and what the world is like.
@TurtleSquish once sorted all the fanfics into different epochs here. Currently, all gameplay takes place within the 14th, though we may eventually go back to the 12th, once Titans are added. That’s not quite what you were talking about, but it’s related. The list was sorted by humans and Titans and the wars between them, and in-game, we may see similar:
1.Age of Goblin Raiders
2.The Goblin Offensive
3.Orc War
…
n.Titans
Within these broader spans of time, your actions will affect the world around you in other ways to the extent that they set up the game master to. A lot of it, though, will be divided up based on the way you view your city at the time, rather than actual scripted stuff.
I feel like we already have a wooden age, a stone age, and a metal age, just from the main three crafters. In fact, if the Blacksmith is eventually more level-gated, we might see both a Bronze Age and an Iron Age. We have a hunting and gathering age, a farming age, and then an age with cooking, just from our four food-related classes and the berries we start off collecting. We have some times that are peaceful and of building, some times with scattered raiders, and some times of full-on war.
Modders, feel free to add more defined ages. But the gameplay already lets us define several.
Coaster, I think you’ve gotten closer to what I meant. But what would be more defining when it comes to ages would be when your empire is large enough to make a much bigger impact on the world with it’s actions
