Have noticed with latest unstable and the one previous that builders are frequently becoming stuck in window openings of buildings, requiring me to use the teleport cheat to free them on a regular basis. There are also more frequent inaccessible blocks that I believe relate to whats causing getting stuck in window openings.
It seems that when they build a ladder to get into the window opening there is only a small bit of scaffolding next to the ladder and the Harthlings seem to ignore that bit of scaffold as a usable access.
Steps to reproduce:
Make building with windows

See that it does not do so easily
Expected Results:
Building completed with ease
Actual Results:
Not completed with ease
Notes:
See above.

I have also run into this problem a lot more frequently, and I think it’s a symptom of buildings being done on a “level-by-level” basis now, where the next level usually won’t be placed before the previous one is complete. It’s fairly easy to resolve stuck builders though and doesn’t require the teleport command to resolve. Simply place a ladder up to the point where they’re stuck and the stuck hearthling should build it themselves and escape their predicament. Remove the ladder when they’re done and it won’t impact on the ongoing building process.
A really nifty resolution to this would be for the game to realise when a hearthling is stuck and to have them automatically build scaffolding/ladders to get back to the ground or to a point they can otherwise pathfind from. It seems almost like a missed feature that this isn’t currently the way it works and that hearthlings will literally just stand there and starve to death.
Understandable. But your original post said “…requiring me to use the teleport cheat to free them on a regular basis.” I was simply pointing out that you’re not required to use a “cheat” to resolve the issue, but that you’ve elected to for ease of convenience.
Might seem like a silly and futile argument in semantics, but that was the reason I responded to your post, as you weren’t required to use a cheat and it seemed as though you may not have known about the ladders by putting your inconvenience as highly as you did.
On that note, macro’ing commands is an awesome idea and I don’t know why I didn’t think of that when I was having a crapload of scaffolding problems a while ago… d’oh!
Mightily cooperative of you, sir! I do definitely agree with your main point, all of that aside, so hopefully the developers can figure this one out and get it put in quickly without taking some major detours from their current workload.
